The Maple State are an 80s-inspired alternative indie/emo rock band, formed in 2004 in Manchester, England.
The current line up is: Will Pearson - Keyboard/Vocals/ Synth, John Goodwin - Drums, Greg Counsell - Bass/Vocals, Christian Counsell - Guitar.
Once known as Joe's Steakhouse, The Maple State started out as a pop-punk band but after several line up changes the group felt that a change was needed. Soon after they started on a 3 track demo, which was very well received. After gaining interest from several record labels both from the UK and US on the strength of these demos, the band agreed to release their debut EP on Punktastic Recordings.
In January 2005 The Maple State released their debut record, a 7 track EP called At Least Until We've Settled In.
Then, in December 2005, The Maple State played a Christmas show with Motion City Soundtrack at First Avenue, and gained many fans in the Twin Cities.
The band released a split EP with Kneehigh in May 2006. It is only a limited release appearing on both CD and White Vinyl.
In November the band will have a song featured ("It's Hot As Hell In Martirio") on a compilation cd titled FULL CHARGE which will be released through High Voltage.
In January 2007, the band are planning on releasing a single for the song "Joanna" which was featured on the compilation cd "Punktastic - Unscene 2". The b-side to the single will be a song titled "Only Bones"
