The Billboard Plato, known as the world’s most influential philosopher quotes that, “Music and rhythm always find their way into the secret places of the soul.” And although quoted years ago, the message still holds true today and will forever stand as the true meaning of music’s purpose in the world. For this rhythm and music seemed to have found its place at the University of Southern California where seven unique freshman students would combine their talents together to form the band known as “The Beat Advocate.” The band’s main purpose is to find the secret places of the soul in individuals to produce music that touches the hearts of many around the world.
The band consists of male vocalist Nate Howard, female vocalist Lily Elise, guitarist Matias Mora, bassist Robert Nagelhout, drummer Bryan Jarett, keyboardist Peter Johnson and saxophonist Justin Klunk. Together this creates The Beat Advocate, a hip hop band based in Los Angeles, CA. With a purpose to entertain and inspire, the band’s music is message based in which they are able to entertain their audience but also advocate at the same time. Their popular song “Type of Stereo” challenges the stereotypes that affect individuals in society today. The song’s dynamics allows listeners to grove to the jam but also open their minds by making them aware of these stereotypes that conquer our daily lives. The band’s single “The Other Side also speaks to issues in the world where they speak about the situations on the other side, internationally and right in their backyard, around the areas of USC. Through the song you become aware of these poverty-stricken areas.
They have performed at numerous events at USC, making them one of the most known and requested band at the school. Within their first year as a band they also have had the opportunity to perform at different high schools around Los Angeles, CA. With a growing fan base, The Beat Advocate has had a successful future ahead of them.
