The Billboard 2nd Grade Hi Five, better known as Randall Gurtler, is an acoustic singer/songwriter. Randall, who got his start playing lead guitar in local rural arizona bands, eventually found himself singing too. It was early 2005 when he started a side project titled "2nd Grade Hi Five." He quickly found a small fan base due to online streaming of early demo's. However, still in a moderately successful touring band, 2GH5 remained a side project. Between 2006 & 2008 he recorded 2 ep's and performed sparingly in free time.
When the summer of 2009 started to end, Randall was without a band. He moved to Tucson, AZ and brought 2GH5 into full swing. He spent the fall on tour, performing music in coffee shops and venues along the west coast. The Indie Gold tour also included stops in Montana & Utah.
Randall immediately began working on a full length album. The result is "Potential." Get up and go, feel good pop, with a more accomplished playing style. Elaborate digital rhythms, accompanied by modest amounts of synth, provide a unique electronic edge to the record. Lyrics focus on Randall's life during his years in touring bands ( "The Scene Girl," "From Monterey to Eugene" ) and relationships that have occurred along the way. ( "Silly Jilly," "Love Me/Leave Me" ) "Overdramatic," & "Never Gonna Stop" have shown the most positive response.
"The album" could be Randall's big break. It could just be a small step in the right direction. Either way, the album certainly shows "potential".
