Art-pop ensemble Anathallo announce the release of their anxiously anticipated sophomore album Canopy Glow, out November 2008 on pioneering indie label Anticon. WHY? frontman and Anticon co-owner, Yoni Wolf, championed signing Anathallo upon hearing the music and under his guidance, Canopy Glow was mixed by Eli Crews (WHY?, Subtle), Tony Espinoza (New Order, Rogue Wave) and Neil Strauch (Chin Up Chin Up, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons) and mastered by Mike Wells (John Vanderslice, Son Lux). The result is a fully developed album with music that showcases the group’s energy and inspiration, as well as the evolution of their sound.

Written in a tucked away room of an old Chicago church in January 2007, Canopy Glow is the follow up to the critically acclaimed 2006 debut Floating World (Artist Friendship), which received critical accolades in numerous publications including The New York Times, Billboard, Paste Magazine, XLR8R, Under the Radar and Alternative Press. Following the release, Anathallo quickly climbed the ranks of the indie-folk realm and went on to perform to packed crowds at Coachella, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, and toured with established artists such as Colour Revolt, The Forms, Page France, Dosh, Aloha, and Brand New among others.

Canopy Glow features 10 tracks which are an intricate amalgamation of climbing strings, crashing drums, layered voices and a sparkling array of notes created by multiple instruments. On the opening track “Noni’s Field,” Anathallo display their lush vocals and warm chords. The second track, “Italo” follows right behind with a tiptoe of whispers and strings that erupt into a full-on symphonic assault. “The River” bounces along with inspirational melodies, while “Cafetorium” is a tip of the hat to label-mate Dosh and his dynamic drumwork.

Canopy Glow also marks the band’s first album on its new label Anticon. Originally founded in 1998 by a few musicians and later structured as group of seven musicians and two managers, Anticon has established itself as one of the most pioneering labels today, due to its unique history of collaboration. The San Francisco-based label encourages creativity by urging its artists to work with one another, other artists and other labels and challenges them to explore different styles of music. It’s only fitting that the seven members of Anathallo have found a home with Anticon and are continuing to explore music with their sense of wonder and confusion.
