Question for my blog readers ... how far is too far with advertising? What sorta thing do you hate, what could you put up with, and where do you draw the line? We're looking at how to give users the best experience on the website ... and feedback helps. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Advertising is fine with me as long as there are no more of those crappy skins.

I could deal with the skins, just not every day. A few of them a month, running for a couple days each, I don't think that's the end of the world. But the new ads between news posts and their replies, and reviews and their replies, are sort of obnoxious, mostly because they're big squares in rectangular-shaped spaces. I think it'd look a hundred times better to have a 468x60 ad in those spaces.

I think too far would be ads in between posts, both on the main page and in the forums. Or those ads that take up the entire screen and say, "Click here to continue to the website." Those would definitely take a lot out of the experience.

I absolutely despise ads with audio. Also, inappropriate content is annoying. If it is an advertisement for music, that is fine. But advertising something the users of this website wouldn't be interested in wouldn't make sense.

The only thing that's happened here that was over the line (in my opinion) was that few-day span with the inescapable pop-ups, and we've already established that you didn't okay that.
Seconded on the ads with audio part, though.

Ads with sound and ads that pop up are very annoying. Everything else I barely notice.

Please no rollover ads or ads that reach across the page like on ESPN.com

The full takeover is the most annoying thing in the history of web advertising. Wrapping pages makes sense but having to watch a video for 30 seconds before I read today's daily Brokencyde takes up far too much of my time. Sure they generate a good amount of revenue for the website but it depends on the threshold of your audience. Is a centralized news feed worth that extra 30 seconds or do you just jump on twitter and find all the same info?

pop up ads are no longer a point of frustration for most web users because of filter tools. I have recently turned back on pop-ups because of sites like ap.net... i must not be cruising enough porn sites these days because I no longer am bothered by multiple windows opening up.

For me, things in the periphery are fine. The skins are alright, the banners and what not are fine too. The only one that is a bit annoying is the one after the first post in a thread. Then again, it's a free site so who am I to complain? I probably WOULD subscribe to an add free program though, if only to give back to the site.

if this site ever started running those ads that take up the entire page and you need to click "continue to AP.net" to get to a page, i would go nuts.

Yeah I agree with almost everyone. The ones with sound/pop-ups.

Other that that they are okay unless they are uber bright or annoying.

Skins for 3 days seems like plenty of time. Even the ads before the news comments are okay. Anything else seems like too much.
