Complain about Green Day's three-chord songs all you want, and while you're at it, don't forget to trash on the Ramones' simple guitar riffs and lack of solos. Big rock bands write big songs to be played in big rock venues.
Albums like Dookie encompass a moment in time, a turning point in a band's career (I think the same can be said for most of their albums, but that's another discussion for another forum). On many levels. If the band were to attempt capturing any of those points in times or moments again? Personally, I think it would come off as pathetic.
I don't grasp the negativity as far as these things are concerned--if you don't like it, vent a bit if you must, but from there on in, don't listen and move on with your life. Le sigh.
