Which Sucks More: Green Day or Rock Band?
Which Sucks More: Green Day or Rock Band?
04/09/10 at 05:22 PM by Adrian Villagomez

"Green Day sucks, they should've stopped making music before they started."

"Rock Band sucks, why don't people play real guitars?"

Complain about Green Day's three-chord songs all you want, and while you're at it, don't forget to trash on the Ramones' simple guitar riffs and lack of solos. The way I see it, Green Day has been making quality mainstream rock music for sixteen years. They deserve their success, and if they want to release their own video game, more power to them. Besides, you don't have to listen to the band or play their video game. But still, people whine whine...[read more]

Fully support this blog post. Even-keeled and all that.

I'm not so sure where the Green Day backlash stems from, but it gets to be a tad repetitive seeing it in every thread about the band. Shrug.

I agree with this for the most part, except that I know people who think they're good musicians because they're really good at Rock Band. It's pretty sad.

The word "sellout" used to be all the rage on AP.net. That went away for a long time, but I saw it make its return in a Green Day thread. That was a good grief moment.

Well, that's just ignorance. Those people deserve to be laughed at.

Green Day influenced so much of what I listen to now that I could never say anything bad about them.

Plus American Idiot was a masterpiece.

Totally agree with your blog entry. I still enjoy some good GD every once in a while, especially Kerplunk and Nimrod.

Well, here's the thing. The word "sell out" has it's place. But at this point? Calling Green Day "sell outs" has the same impact it would if you used the term to call-out Metallica or U2.

Big rock bands write big songs to be played in big rock venues.

Albums like Dookie encompass a moment in time, a turning point in a band's career (I think the same can be said for most of their albums, but that's another discussion for another forum). On many levels. If the band were to attempt capturing any of those points in times or moments again? Personally, I think it would come off as pathetic.

I don't grasp the negativity as far as these things are concerned--if you don't like it, vent a bit if you must, but from there on in, don't listen and move on with your life. Le sigh.
