From Under the Cork Tree
From Under the Cork Tree

But you never expected this out of me. But here goes:

There are far too many reasons to dismiss and attack Fall Out Boy, but 2005's From Under the Cork Tree is not one of them. Aside from its verbose and completely inane song titles, the album has some of the more appealing and indelible choruses released in the 2005 calendar year. Certainly the merits of "Sugar We're Going Down," have been discussed ad nauseum, but the razor-sharp witticism and air-tight production still deserve a place in the annals of rock music. Sure it came along at the right place and the right time, but few, if any bands had the prescience to build on the momentum and catapult it to soaring heights. I've been spinning From Under The Cork Tree and have been thinking the same things. Such a superbly executed piece of pop. "The Music Or The Misery" should have been included as more than just a b-side though. That song fit far too well with the rest and was one of the highlights of the album.

So weird since I just revisited this album yesterday. One of the best released from the scene by far. In my opinion it's actually the best FOB release, even though TTTYG is a solid album. Lyrically it was just spot on. I remember getting it when it was first released and just spinning it all the time and never, ever, getting sick of it. I never got into the later releases and wasn't so sad to see FOB disband.. but this album always reminds me of how good a pop punk album could be. This is what other bands need to aspire too, such a cornerstone of the scene.
