Show Review: Warped Tour 2012 (Mansfield, MA)
Show Review: Warped Tour 2012 (Mansfield, MA)
07/29/12 at 03:20 PM by Alex DiVincenzo

Even as I become increasingly jaded with each passing year, I always look forward to the Vans Warped Tour. No matter the circumstances, I end up having a blast and finding more than enough excellent bands to watch. The one aspect I do not look forward to, however, is the weather. You see, the tour has a long-standing history of bringing torrential rain and/or record-breaking heat to Massachusetts. But when the weather forecast for the July 19th stop at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA was in the the 80s, I knew I was in for a good day.

alex, i'd have to disagree with you on saying that this year covered the entire spectrum of the scene. For the first time ever (i think) there was not a single true punk band. no anti flag, nofx, bad religion, lagwagon, casualties, rancid, etc. there weren't even any locals or smaller bands that played this type of punk, which has to be a first.

although it was nice to see bands like nfg, tbs, senes fail, etid, and bayside, i for one, was sorely disappointed that the punk, skatepunk, epifat, whatever you want to call it genre was looked over this year.

You know, that's actually a really good point. I think we have some bands that derived from that scene, but the closest of the big names on the tour is probably Streetlight Manifesto, which is obviously a bit different. Interesting note. Kicking myself for overlooking it, since now it seems so obvious.

i read a kevin lyman interview somewhere, where he was talking about how those type of bands don't really fit into the tour any longer. those bands are obviously older now, as are their fans. fans in their late 20's and 30's don't want to stand around in parking lots in 90 degree weather to see a band play for 30 minutes anymore. those bands have now moved onto club shows, touring selectively, where their audience can go out and see their favorite band play a) where you can drink at a club, b)for at least an hour long set, and c) once in a while, making the act more desireable.
the bands that are playing now will undoubtedly be doing the same thing 10-15 years from now, assuming of course that they're even still together.

I completely agree with Blood on The Dancefloor, they were DEFINITELY not singing, and I was shocked at the size of their crowd. And when they got Ian from NFG out he looked extremely uncomfortable.

Also, where was I Am The Avalanche!? I didn't see anything saying they wouldn't be playing, and haven't been able to find anything explaining why they didn't! It's an outrage! Judging by their facebook it looks like they're touring Europe, did they drop of early for that?

Haha, Ian did look uncomfortable.

IATA were only scheduled for the first half of the tour. They were done 7/3.

Ah, I should've paid closer attention.

That was the only downside to Warped Tour, no Into it. Over it., Title Fight or I Am The Avalanche. It was pretty weird there was still a Title Fight merch guy though. He looked extremely lonely.

Yeah, Title Fight had to drop a few north east shows for a wedding, but they were still on the tour so their merch guy kept with I guess. I missed them, but you can't win them all. As it was, I had to make a few tough decisions between bands to see.

They weren't on the Mass date, but it's good to see that the tour still has a small representation of the music it was built upon.
