Show Review: Warped Tour 2012 - Acoustic Basement (Hartford, CT)

"All we ever wanted was a cool, dry place to rest our bones / Not to drift along with this current forever, not to have to sink alone."

Not only were the above lyrics, taken from A Loss For Words' "Wrightsville Beach," the most enthusiastically chanted singalong at the Warped Tour's Acoustic Basement at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT on July 22, but the stage also gave the words new meaning. The Warped Tour was founded on in-your-face punk rock, but sometimes it's nice to take a break from the loud music, blistering sun and throngs of people. Of course, you'll still want to enjoy music with...[read more]

So awesome. I'm bummed Mike's not going to be in the area for the acoustic basement, as he's overseas with MxPx All-Stars, but I hope to see Geoff play.

Gee-off ended the Milwaukee set with Standing on the Edge of Summer. My favorite Thursday song. I got to meet him, I bought one of his "Your love is a pawn shop" shirts. So awesome.

My only qualm with the Acoustic Basement is that when other bands are playing on nearby stages it kind of drowns out the acoustic performances. While I was watching Anthony Raneri, some crazy metal band starting playing on a close stage and I had trouble concentrating on Anthony over the screaming and double bass. Luckily he had already played a few before the other band started playing.

The idea is great and I hope they bring it back, but I wish they would put the tent in a more isolated area if possible.
Edit: And yeah like the guy below me said, they should at least put the acts up on a small riser to make it easier for people to see.

Good article, but they really need to make some changes next year. The stage placement is pretty bad; once the first couple rows get filled with people, it's hard to see anything. I watched Anthony Raneri, but all I saw was his head, and there was a support pole in the way, haha. The stage should be in the back- middle of the tent, not the corner, to allow for a broader viewing space, and they could probably raise it up a few inches or so. That's event planning 101.

I hope this stage evolves into something great over the years. It'd be really cool to see artist collaborations in this tent as well (like Anthony Green and Craig Owens at SXSW).

The basement was a cool idea, but in Ventura it did not work. Too close to the main stage and constantly being drowned out

I spent so much time in the acoustic basement over the three warped dates I went to this summer. They really selected an amazing group of artists, and some great dudes running the tent as well. I'm definitely hoping it becomes a Warped staple.

This one of the many things that made Warped 2012 so amazing.
