First Listen*: Tegan and Sara - "Heartthrob"

There's an asterisk in the post because this isn't really my first listen to Tegan and Sara's spectacular new album Heartthrob - rather I've listened to this album roughly 20+ times since getting my advance in early November. I just didn't want to write a lot about it till it got a little closer to the release date (so in this case, 6 or so weeks before it releases at the end of January).

I won't get into too much detail on this album (I'm saving that for my review will may be posted at the end of this month; early January at the latest) but I just wanted to share a few thoughts. Everyone by now has heard the duo's first single "Closer" by now, and yes it is incredibly catchy and may be the catchiest song of 2013. But it is also the most optimistic song...[read more]

The Con is my favourite record of theirs, and I loved how they incorporated more electronic elements in their music for Sainthood. This will no doubt be a killer album.

I find "Closer" to be incredibly obnoxious, but "I'm Not Your Hero" is absolute gold. Your review's giving me a bit of hope, but it still seems like it could either be really sincere or a bad attempt at this resurgence of '80s synth-rock in indie music.

This made me even more excited for the album. "Now I'm All Messed Up" is possibly one of my favorite songs they've done and I haven't even heard a studio version yet.
