| 1 Peter Chapter 2&3 | | 1 Peter Chapter 2&3 |
I’ve been trying to read the Bible more lately and I’ve been failing miserably. I have however been able to check out the words of Peter a bit. I was not surprised to find that I didn’t like what I was reading. I will share a couple of verses I take issue with below.
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 13-14 (NIV):
“13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority,14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.”
I want to preface the rest of this blog by saying that I am trying my best not to take anything out of context. I have read the chapters in their entirety so if you believe that something doesn’t sound right, please read the other verses and...[read more] | | |

About what you've specifically been talking about, I have not encountered any situations in which any of the religious people I know have shown any overt adherence to the misogynistic "lessons" of the Bible. But I can tell just by the way the religious women I know act that they instinctively follow a passive gender role of the family culture in which they live in.
And for what you've pointed out about the Bible telling people to blindly follow their leader, I think it's a lot different now because many of the religious people I know question Obama, since many Christians are Republicans (not all, though). Yet, it seems (again, not always) that they would have a stronger, less questioning adherence to a Republican president. Indeed, the Republican political party, including the Tea Party, is very popular among Christians.

You're right that it's difficult to lump people into these large groups, but I don't think our generalizations are entirely incorrect. Yes, you aren't a Republican because you're a Christian. However, if you're Republican, you're probably Christian or religious.
I'm very critical of Obama, but I think we all should be. However, the Republicans seem not to like Obama because of very racist undertones. That's very different from what I'm saying.
I'm very glad you can see beyond the veil and understand what the Bible is actually saying.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog!
