1/7/11 - The Starting Line/Hit the Lights/Such Gold Show Review
1/7/11 - The Starting Line/Hit the Lights/Such Gold Show Review

How do you start a review for a show that features one of the most iconic bands in the "scene" playing a once-a-year show? Either way, with a lineup like this you knew it was going to be a special night.

Such Gold kicked it off with an energetic 30 minute set. Most of the crowd wasn't familiar with them, but for the small portion that did, it was a treat. As someone that has seen Such Gold, in a bar with about 40 people no less, I'll admit that it was a bit weird to see them on a big stage and a 10 foot barrier between the crowd. The awkwardness of not being able to be right in the faces of the crowd was definitely something they had trouble dealing with at first but they got over it fairly quick. Either way, this didn't stop them from putting on one hell of a set....[read more]

Great review! I was surprised that they ended their set with This Ride rather than The Best of Me.

Yea dude. The way Kenny was talking you could tell he missed it. I love Such Gold so much, the best guys. The HTL dudes rule as well.

Thanks for the shout-out on the setlist!

Solid review. I've seen them nine (maybe ten?) times now and this was the best I ever remember them being, so I give you a lot of credit for writing a pretty fair assessment. Especially like your point about "Luck." I still definitely think it's a step forward from Direction, but now that you mention it sounding like a b-side, it almost seems like it could have been written alongside "Time to Run."

No problem! I was in too much bliss and had no room to keep track of a set list.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly on the show. Even though this was my 7th or 8th time seeing them, it never gets old. My only gripe was the fact that I was 4 days post-wisdom teeth removal, so I couldn't unleash middle-school me completely haha. Oh well, made it through the night with only a few punches to the mouth and dry socket free so no complaints.

Nothing beats "Best of Me" live though. Nothing.

Happy you got to see this...

That TSL setlist is stunning. I hope this becomes permanent.

I missed them while they were gone & I just have been losing all my favorite bands...

TEN is by the wayside & I could only pray one day that TEN & TSL would play together again.

I think I would explode (this all just being a dream of course).

I agree with you about the Mix; you could hardly hear guitars and in some areas it was hard to hear vox... and the Starland Ballroom overpacked that place beyond anything I could have imagined. I disagree with you saying Such Gold had a great performance. They honestly sounded awful, way too much distortion and whatever singing/screaming they did, it honestly sounded like static. I'm opened to all types of music and genre and Such Gold were bad. They need to balance out their sound better.
