I write this, mind you, while an infomercial for Monster Ballads is on the television. Maybe we just don't know what we've got, until it's gone.
Remember the entry where I shed some details on my conversation with ex-Refused drummer David Sandström? We had a small tangent of a conversation concerning the "death of the album."
Well, it would seem appropriate that the band we all love to hate to love may be putting that idea into play. Brand New, rumored, are about to take this idea into play.

I agree with you if Brand New decides to go to a digital-only market. I prefer the album art in hand, myself.

It's tough to see that the "majority" doesn't really care for physical releases anymore, while the "majority of the minority" does care about physical copies and tangible mediums.
I'd hate to see any of my favorite bands not release any sort of physical copy (whether CD or vinyl). The sad thing is that there's an issue with the marketing and distribution time between releases. With the power of the Internet to gain "instant gratification," fans and listeners will just scoop up what they can obtain right away.
Sure, the Thrice record leaked early, and the Kevin Devine record leaked early, but in the end, I would hope, and believe, that many of those people were super fans who just couldn't wait anymore. I would like to think that they will be the ones to grab a physical release or pre-order on the shelf date.
