| All I wanted was a set of ear plugs. I couldn't find the pair I had brought and searched frantically past the pills of Mucinex, my headphones and random stickers and swag in my backpack only to come up short. So as a friend told me they were giving away some at the front of the venue, I made my way through the crowd only to be berated five times with a what looked like a plastic discount card containing a code to some website for something I was supposed to check out at some point, but instead ended up tossing every single one handed to me in the trash on the way back to the outside stage. Maybe it was the fact that I was fighting a cold brought on by the lovely Texas weather of the weekend prior or maybe it was the muggy weather that made me feel back at home and worse, or maybe it was...[read more] | | |

granted, you've set up shows, i haven't. but when my friends and i go to the festival, we're more likely to go see a show with a moderate lineup and free booze over a great showcase lineup that you have to pay to see. granted, we've gotten our way with both (the-dream, AP show and the shins come to mind for 2012). the non-wristband/badge holders (imo) have ALWAYS been more on the "party" side of sxsw. i like to find middle ground though.
EDIT
ok i said lucky duck prior to reading, sounds like it was a mixed bag of dicks.

Adam, you would fucking love the Fest, dude. Please come here next year. "it's because I wish a bit of the deadwood, the party, the ad-space that the festival has become would die off a little bit and that it would just be a bunch of shows to check out or being able to see a band you love in an intimate setting for free and not standing in line while half the room is just there for all the free shit and "to just be there"" ---- that's the fest.
Edit to clarify: The "Was anybody really surprised" thing was supposed to be about the Doritos building - not about Malcolm not getting to play. I'm with Adam in the sense that it's a huge, unfortunate bummer that he didn't get to play. Sorry to Malcolm and everyone else that misinterpreted my comment. The McDonald's thing was meant to play on Adam's talk of advertisements and business at SXSW, saying that it has become kind of a corporate festival. No, I have never been. It was based on Adam's review and others I've read. Again, sorry for confusion.
So many people that I talked to in-line had little knowledge of who was playing. They mostly just wanted the free booze. It was disheartening to say the least.
Have you ever been to a SXSW or are you just Nasiffing and talking out of your ass? The McDonald's of music festivals? What in the holy fuck are you talking about?
It's beyond ridiculous for you to make that comment, especially the last sentence... since this happened at our party. Yes, we were really surprised that Malcom couldn't get his stuff set up. We ran the party well, and such (unfortunate) things are bound to happen.
I can only hope a low key member such as myself could be responsible for such a fad!
