For a while now I've been trying to find a way sum up the true meaning behind this whole chugachuga/whiney vocals/breakdown/melodic pop melody craze (i.e., "pop punk") that some folks have been going crazy about around here lately. Fortunately another sane user hit the nail on the head about it more precisely than I could/before I could. I think it bears repeating/copy/pasting here:
Quote:
people have deluded themselves into thinking pop punk is something more than just another form of accessible music, so they started creating faux-macho stances defending something that nobody who isn't an insecure asshole would feel the need to defend in the first place. I suspect a lot of those people secretly wish they could get into punk/hardcore but for whatever reason didn't.
plus ever since green day and blink 182 got famous, there's always been a rather large bro contingent in pop punk fans.
true story. (and what's funny about all this is that even bands like mxpx sound "more punk" than a lot of what gets peddled nowadays. sheesh)
