Best of 00's
04/16/09 at 08:04 PM by briewer
Okay, so I have this half-cracked idea to make a grand summary of the decade of the 00's by creating a list of my favorite albums from the decade, ordering them, and then writing up about each one, which will be posted [SHAMELESS PLUG] on my blog, bornunderpunchesss.blogspot.com. Obviously, this list is not ordered, very preliminary, doesn't include anything from 2009, and is almost definitely going to change, but I thought I'd give a peek into what I'm leaning towards in this insane endeavor. So, without further ado, my 50 favorite albums of the 00's, in alphabetical order:

Merriweather Post Pavilion: Pirate or Wait?
01/08/09 at 01:17 AM by briewer
Okay, so Animal Collective's new album Merriweather Post Pavilion was recently leaked in full. This is one of the most anticipated albums of my young life. Sure, this probably won't be the best album I will ever own, or even my favorite, but I've never been this excited about an album this long before it came out. I've already preordered the album for when it comes out on the 20th, but I still can't help but want to pirate it before it officially hits the streets. I've heard two tracks off of the album, "My Girls" from the AC myspace and "Brothersport" through a leak, but I'm not quite ready to nab the entire thing from a torrent client. I have the feeling that I will appreciate the CD as a whole more if I get it in its packaging the day it gets shipped, where I can touch it, feel it, smell it, and know "This is it." But then, knowing that I'm just a few clicks away from taking it right now is, for something that I want so badly, a very tantalizing option. So, the decision boils down to this: do I wait for what I'm thinking will be a greater reward in the long run, or do go for the instant gratification and ruin the listening experience once I receive it in the mail? I'm seriously torn on this. I think, if I can muster up the moral fortitude, that I'm going to try and do what Bradford Cox of Deerhunter/Atlas Sound said:
My advice to those who are so desperate for AC's album to leak is to pick up instruments and make your own version of what you would want it to sound like. Respect the BANDS wishes and wait till release day. Then you can compare your new songs with theirs. Who knows. Maybe your album will be the one people are wanting to leak next year.
So, I guess tomorrow I'm gonna try and produce some new tracks. Good luck to me then.
