Highly recommend you go check out their album Sleeping Beneath the Ashes of Creation. Really sweet metalcore. They're long since defunct, but still a good listen. Their self-released EP is sweet too.
How much cooler can you get than Keith Richards, Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams and Hank Williams III (who I don't listen at all but whatever) playing together on one of the greatest Rolling Stones songs ever? Not much. Just found this and thought I'd share for anyone interested.
So, tonight I hung out with a buddy of mine at the mall. (Minus two cool points for me) Aaaand, we went into Hot Topic (Cool Points-O-Meter malfunctions)...Anyway, browsing the vinyls I noticed they had The Ergs!' Hindsight is 20/20 My Friend, Joey Cape's Bridge, Fake Problems' It's Great to Be Alive, and the Teenage Bottlerocket/Ergs! split. Not to mention the new Dillinger Four and Off With Their Heads cds. Did I miss something here? Is Hot Topic starting to realize that pandering to fans of the Maine and Nightmare Before Christmas enthusiasts wasn't really working out? I'm confused, people. Con-effin-fused.
Season finale of Psych was quality stuff. The most dramatic episode they've done yet, and they handled it well. Also, it had "Within Your Reach" by the Replacements at the end, and that's just all sorts of awesome. Check this show out. Please? Okay, cool.
It's a shame that mainstream country music, with its contrived lyrics, overwhelming amount of sameness and faux-Americana pandering has succeeded in turning so many people off of the country music genre, as there is plenty of excellent country music out there. Case in point: Athens, Georgia's Drive-By Truckers. Playing a fresh, interesting brand of alt.country, they've become a staple in the alt.country world. While most people seem to favor the critically-acclaimed Southern Rock Opera, I feel their best moment is The Dirty South. Songs like "Carl Perkins' Cadillac", "The Day John Henry Died" and "Tornadoes" rank among their finest work. Definitely give this band a shot sometime.
Can't recommend this guy enough. If you're at all into blues/folk, I definitely think you'll like him. He's a 30 year old white guy, but he sounds like a 55 year old soul man. His new album, Animals In the Dark is already one of my favorites of 2009. Get into it!
In my opinion, this is just one of the best albums ever recorded. I've always felt that the 'Mats were, and still are, a criminally underrated band. Anyway, I recommend you buy the re-issue of this album that just came out not too long ago. And why not? Get the rest of their albums too! Because I'm lazy, I'll just link you to my review for this album instead of wasting more words here.
There are some pretty sweet covers out there on the YouTubes. Here's some of my favorites/channels you should check out:
WaitsWatcher - Take Me Home (Tom Waits)
Really nice channel. This guy does some outstanding instrumental renditions of Tom Waits songs. Gorgeous stuff. Subscribe to his channel, you won't regret it.
madswa - The Hardest Part (Ryan Adams)
Good cover of an excellent Ryan Adams song. This guy's got a good channel too. Always covers good tunes.
panthro555 - Barcarolle (Tom Waits)
Yet another Waits song haha. Great rendition though. This guy doesn't have much uploaded, but his few other videos are swell.
I'd post a Julia Nunes video too, but you already all know her.
