After the huge disappointment that was 2008 ended, its safe to say I had pretty low standards set for the year to come (music wise). However, that bar was raised very quickly when I began to make a list of the years to be released albums. In 2008 I found myself digging as hard as I could to scrounge up a top 10 list (only to realize after that I had severely screwed up and missed one of the top 3 albums) but this year I had the hardest time making some kind of order for the top 10 (they could really go in any order) Not only did the year end up being very rich on the good music side of things, but my life changed drastically around all that music, rendering a highly enjoyable soundtrack to those changes.
This year I was unemployed for the first time in 3 years, sold my car to buy a 15 passenger van, traveled 25,000 miles through 13 states adding 8 to my total visited played to 500 kids at the taste of chaos, saw (and went broke in) Vegas for the first time, officially became homeless, fell in love/out of love, began my own design business, and made a lot of new friends while falling more in love with the old. Overall, 2009 was a year that will not be taken lightly with the rest of my life (unlike the consistently forgotten 2007). Another thing I will be adding to the list this year will be my favorite books read in 2009. I finally took an interest in something worthwhile and began reading.
In terms of musical taste for the year, it took a u-turn towards the soft, heartfelt, and beautiful. Anything with a capo and a soft voice will do me in. Getting lost in the experience of music has become vastly important in my life now and this turn around has been appreciated. If my iPod were still able to tell me my current trends it would look drastically different from last year, with artists like Death Cab, The Shins, and Minus The Bear riding high on top. Its nice to be trending away from the loud, beating, earaches of the past.

Explanation
They went from selling out clubs to selling out arenas in a span of like 6 months. I don't care who you are, that's a huge accomplishment. They care about what they do and they deserve everything they've got this year.
In Our Memories
I wrote this whole list back at the beginning of Nov. preparing for the end of the year figuring, hey, it's only a month left, no one's died, no one's gonna die, it's all good. I wrote in this section "no one's really died"
well it seems November decided to prove me wrong. So here it goes:

Hearing that Casey and Pat died was a huge shock to me. They were so close together, right after thanksgiving, so young, and both completely unexplainable. It's just really sad to hear about people like that, even if they were in bands that I never liked. R.I.P.
