The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff
Nintendo At The Vans Warped Tour
When it was first announced that Nintendo would be a major sponsor of this yearís Vans Warped Tour I was more then a little shocked. It didnít seem like a good fit. Why would the biggest video game company in the world want to attach themselves to a tour full of underdeveloped bands? It took me a while to remember that Nintendo has a product out right now that you need to see to believe, the 3DS. Armed with a giant tent full of 3DS demos and a staff eager to educate attendees of the tour, Nintendoís presence at the Warped Tour might be one of the smartest moves they make all year.
Itís hard to miss Nintendo at this yearís edition of the Vans Warped tour, they have not one but two tents and are even sponsoring one of the larger stages. They are also handing out temporary tattoos which by the end of the long day you see plastered all over the concert goers. The tent holding the 3DS demo kiosks is by far one of the larger tents on the festival grounds. Inside youíll find plenty of 3DSí running full versions of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Monkey Ball, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, Super Street Fighter IV, Dead or Alive Dimensions, and the staff is having a blast showing people the AR games.
I got hands on time with a few of the games, but since none of them were very new or exclusive to the tour, Iíll just say this. Super Street Fighter IV looks fantastic in 3D, Dead or Alive Dimensions felt unnecessary in every way, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries was pretty boring and didnít effectively use the 3D. AR games are still fantastic but I have a feeling we arenít going to see anything new in AR department anytime soon.
The most interesting thing about my time in the booth is the way the people manning it were handling perspective players. When I picked up a 3DS that was running Street Fighter I was immediately approached by one of the staff. He then started asking me if I like fighting games and if they were ďmy favorite type of gameĒ. I told him I played all types of games and that fighting games werenít my favorite and that I wasnít even good at them. Thatís when he pointed out that most special moved good be performed on the touch screen. I assured him that these were things I knew and he left me alone, but it was cool to see how educated they were about the hardware and the software.
He then asked my wife what kind of games she liked, and when she responded ďAngry BirdsĒ he took her on a tour of the AR games. Which seems to be the thing people in the booth were most excited about, and another reason why I still donít own a 3DS yet. Thereís no real compelling games for the system. AR isnít worth $249 to me.
A couple of minutes into my time with Dead or Alive Dimensions the same guy asked me what I thought. I told him ďthe 3D seemed unnecessaryĒ and he agreed with me. Which quite honestly shocked me a bit. I figured he would want to hype me up on the 3D and get me excited for the system. It was pretty refreshing when he didnít try to explain why the 3D actually made the game better.
What did the bands on the tour think of the 3DS? Well the reaction was mixed to say the least. Josh from The Wonder Years was a big fan of the system and its 3D capabilities ďitís unlike anything Iíve ever played before....its a cool thingĒ. On the other hand indie rapper MC Lars, not such a fan ďit kind of gave me a headacheĒ. Although he did say that maybe kids who are just now getting into video games might find it to be cool. These mixed emotions on the system from within the bands on the tour seem to match the sentiment in most gamers. Itís either a gimmick you canít stand, or itís the future of gaming.
At first Nintendo at Warped Tour didnít make a whole lot of sense but after watching concert goers stream in and out of Nintendoís tent and watch the look on their faces when they picked up a 3DS for the first time it all clicked. Nintendo needs to get this device out into the world and in front of as many faces as possible. While it may not be the target demographic for the systemís buyers all these kids have parents and now their kids will ask for a 3DS or show their parents the glasses free 3D. Itís hard to believe it works but the proof is there in the big Nintendo tent at this yearís Vans Warped Tour. If the tour is coming to your town be sure to stop by and check it out itís one of the best ways to get a large amount of time with the device and truly decide whether or not the 3DS is for you.
Well that's it. I hope you enjoyed the Jim Plachy era of the Absolute Punk Dot Net video game roundup. I weep for the next poor bastard who has to do this. If you want, you can follow me on Twitter. Also, even though I don't write for them anymore keep checking out Four Player Co-Op because they are good dudes and deserve your eyeballs. Also, a huge thanks to Linda and Deborah and everyone else here who despite my wacky roundups never edited anything I wrote. I mean, I wrote some wacky shit, but it was always there intact each time. I had a lot of fun, thanks again.
Jim Plachy, back again and I have some good news, and some bad news. The bad news is that there wasn't much news this week. The good news is that it's time for THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! I'm giving up the video game blogging game to go work for a mega corporation, and I'm ready to totally sell out. I even bought a pair of Nikes the other day. Next week you'll most likely get a round up but the week after will be my last round up and I'm going out with a bang. Nintendo who is one of the major sponsors of this year's warped tour hooked me up with press passes and I'm going to interview fans and bands about their history with Nintendo. I'll roll into a special section in that week's round up. Want to be included?? Read on!
Starting with Resistance 3 you will need a PSN Pass to play the online portion of first party games. The PSN Pass is included with new copies of the games. They can also be purchased separately as well.

On July 12th LA Noire gets the Reefer Madness DLC.

Maybe I'll see you there! In the meantime stop by Four Player Co-Op you'll be glad you did!

So, the Wii U, huh? It's a controller or a console or an iPod Touch with buttons I'm not 100% sure. It wont matter though because the thing isn't coming out for about 18 months. So dream whatever you can dream up.
I hope that was enough E3 news to satisfy your hunger for video game news. How did you guys feel about E3? I feel like Microsoft fell flat on their face. Sony and Nintendo were about even, but I think the prospect of the PSV coming this year at $249 was just enough to push them over the edge. Until next time children...
It is Memorial Day weekend here in the United States and I am in the mood to grill. Throw in the fact that its almost time to cover E3 and I need as much rest as I can get We're going to blow through this one. My name is Jim Plachy, I write for Four Player Co-Op and THIS is the video game roundup.

Hello, my name is Jim Plachy and I blog about video games. Once a week I come to AbsolutePunk Dot Net to roundup a fraction of the weeks video game news so people can comment about it. Or complain about it. Either way, here's a small amount of video game news. Be warned, it was a slow news week. E3 is right around the corner so most companies are waiting until then to unleash their news.
So last week there was some confusion over whether or not I really knew if the PlayStation Network was down. I was being sarcastic. But I can understand how some people may not know I was trying to be funny, so this week to avoid any confusion, I'm going to put a smiley face after every story. That way we all know I'm just joking around. Alright? Ok.
The PlayStation Network is back online for most territories. You'll have to download a patch and change the password on your account, but hey it's back and you can finally play games online again. You still can't buy things from the PlayStation Store, but this is better than nothing, right?
The Spring update for the Xbox 360 will supposedly be rolled out in 6 waves starting on the 19th. Don't get too excited the only thing this does is make your system compatible with the new 360 disc format. Unless there is something they aren't telling us! DUN DUN DUN!
There's going to be more Alan Wake, but it wont be a sequel or DLC. Great.
Hold on to your hats for the most shocking news all week! Modern Warfare 3 will be the next Call of Duty game and it will be out this November. If you want even more information you can check out Kotaku who spoiled the whole game all for the sake of some hits to their website! Good job guys!

This weeks video game round up is for all the mothers out there. Which is exactly 0 of you. So this I dedicate this to none of you is basically what I'm saying.
I just found out today that I guess the PlayStation network has been down. Did you guys know about this? Apparently Sony has no idea when it's going to come back up, but the good news is that when the hackers use your credit card you'll be protected from fraudulent charges.
As predicted the Wii will go down to $149 in a new bundle that includes Mario Kart instead of Wii Sports and a steering wheel to go along with it. Nintendo also introduced a line of Wii Selects a line of 5 year old games that are now $19.99 instead of $49.99. Seriously.
Nintendo's next system might have 8GB of on board flash memory and be able to output at 1080. I would hope at the very least it had these things.
Burnout Crash is a top down game where you drive a car into intersections and try to cause property damage. It also includes UFOs and lobster monsters. Sounds like an iOS game to me, but it's rated for Xbox 360 and PS3.
Black Rock Studios experienced lay offs this week along with the sad news that there will be no Split/Second 2 for the time being. Which is a shame, because Split/Second was one of the best games of last year.
Ubisoft has announced Assassin's Creed: Revelation! It wraps up Ezio's story line and you play as Desmond and Altair as well. Seriously. Most anticipated game of the year right hurrrr. The game will be featured on the cover of this month's Game Informer.

Sorry if I left you guys hanging there for a couple of weeks, I had pressing matters to attend to. Hopefully I'm back in the saddle for a good long while now. Make sure you guys check out my website Four Player Co-Op and if you really want to, you can read my review of Conduit 2. You can also follow us on Twitter and subscribe to my podcast. It's fun, I promise! Until next week!
Last week I started off the roundup by telling you that it had been 83 degrees outside. This morning, it snowed. SNOW. On my car, in the trees, on the grass.....double you tea eff mother nature, you know what I'm saying?
Uncharted 3's multiplayer is going to be insane. A beta will begin on July 5th or a week earlier if you buy inFAMOUS 2 or are a Playstation Plus subscriber.
Capcom announced a bunch of stuff! First up is Dead Rising 2: Off the Record which is going to be a remake of the classic zombie killing game Dead Rising 2(it came out so long ago, ask your parents)except you play as Frank West who starred in the original Atari 2600 classic Dead Rising. Wheeeeeeee!
Sorry if it seemed like there was a lack of news this week, but look at that release list. Take a deep breath buy a couple new games, and next thing you know it'll be next week and there will be more news. Alright? Alright. No promotional BS this week, just enjoy all the new games.
Majesco is going to try again to make an AR ghost game, this time for the 3DS.
Microsoft launched it's new Preview Program. Of note is that some people were prompted to download their dashboard update while some people will get it on the Halo Reach disc that is part of the Preview Program.
Alright, that was a lot of round up right? See it was worth the wait. Want more video game news? Check out me and my friends over at Four Player Co-Op. Listen to my weekly video game round up podcast and follow us on Twitter.
Alright, Jim Plachy here again to fill you with links to video game news. I don't have a whole lot to say, except how awesome is it that the Charlie Sheen tour is a disaster? Oh, it's so great. Anyways......
Don't forget! The 100th episode of the Bullshot! podcast is LIVE this Thursday April 7th at 8:30pm Central time. You can ask us questions here, and RSVP on UStream here. All I ask of you this week is to tune in, we would really appreciate it. Until next week....
So, did you get a 3DS? I have to tell you that top screen is a hell of a drug. One look at it's crisp no glasses 3D and you get hooked. I had to lock myself in the bathroom for 2 days just to make sure I didn't run out and pre-order one, because quite frankly I'm not sure I need one, but man do I want one real bad.
My name is Jim Plachy, I am from the website Four Player Co-Op and I come here.......semi regularly to let you know about the video games. Let's go!
Alright that's going to do it, but I have something really important to plug. The 100th episode of my podcast Bullshot! is coming up on April 7th and we are going to do it LIVE on Ustream. Also Fable Coin Gold is coming to Windows Phone 7, playing it will unlock 3 special items for Traitor's Keep. Fable III will be coming to PC (finally) on May 17th, it will be playable in 3D. (That will make it better!)
Alright, I have to get back to work. Do you like listening to reviews rather than reading them? The staff of Four Player Co-Op did two audio roundtable reviews this week. One for Stacking and one for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Why don't you treat yourself and listen to one, or both! Oh and Bullshot! is really good this week too. BYE!
Wow, this has easily been the worst month of my life, so you'll have to excuse me for going missing for two weeks, but I'm back now and ready to talk about my favorite pastime, the video games!
inFAMOUS 2 hits shelves on June 7th, which is quite frankly the perfect time for it to come out, in the middle of the dry season. inFAMOUS came out around the same time in '09 and it was the only thing I played for months. I need to finish my "good" playthrough. There of course is going to be a crazy ass special edition that includes the sling back Cole wears on his back along with some other goodies. It will run you $99. There are also a ton of pre-order bonuses depending on where you pre-order.
Killzone 3 is going to come in a bunch of bundles including one that comes with a PS3 for $299. Gamestop has a few exclusives including one that includes a Move controller and Playstation Camera for $99.

Left 4 Dead 2 is getting new DLC "sometime after the release of Portal 2" in April. It's called Cold Stream and allows you to play the remaining 3 campaigns from the first Left 4 Dead and introduces the Cold Stream campaign which is being made by a member of the modding community.
Telltale Games announced a whole slew of new games. Including games based on the comic books The Walking Dead, and Fables. They will also continue their Hector: Badge of Carnage series that they started recently on iOS. Puzzle Agent will get a sequel and they also picked up the rights to make games in the King's Quest universe. The titles are expected to hit all the platforms where you download games. (XBLA, PSN, App Store, Steam, etc.)
When you beat a level in FEAR 3's single player campaign you can play it again as the co-op partner.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is getting it's first paid pack of DLC. It's entitled The Da Vinci Disappearance and will include new single player missions and new maps and modes for multiplayer. It will cost you $10 and be out in March.
That's it, hopefully I can make it two in a row next week. In the meantime, follow Four Player Co-Op on Twitter, and please watch our end of the year 2010 video special. We worked really hard on it and don't you want to spend an hour looking at five nerds discussing their favorite video games as they get progressively drunker? I thought so. Also, listen to Bullshot! It's like reading this round up only with your ears! Ok, bye.
