This isn’t the type of record you spin out loud. This, however, is a Christmas record for the overly sentimental people who love staying indoors chugging down modern folk music, and being too existential over the true meaning of the yule season. I hope this makes you smile. I hope this makes you cry. I hope this makes you happy, and a bit sad because that is probably the only way you’ll be sure that Christmas is indeed where you are right now. I recommend spinning this at exactly December 24, 11:52PM, for maximum listening pleasure. The Bright Eyes one-two punch is Christmas Eve, the part where we suddenly get nostalgic and look back at 2010 in its entirety as far as our memory can remind us: being anxious for Christmas, waiting for the day and all. Buying presents. Wooing our loved ones so holidays won’t be as cold as it should be. Basically, it’s every pre-Christmas ritual we ever do regardless of how much aware we are of them. Merry Christmas everyone! Just don’t forget thanking John Lennon/Dustin Kensrue for that wonderful War is Over number.
