Saosin's newest album In Search of Solid Ground is solid. Great choruses, sweet melodies, and a more balanced sound from the band really make it a unique listen. It wasn't what I was expecting, but that's another reason why I like it. Just like the new TBS album, if you swear by the bands older work, you need not apply.
After hearing higher quality samples of the songs. I'm not COMPLETELY disappointed. Sure it's not the full length version of TTN but that album will probably never be made. Saosin has definitely tried for some poppier songs this time around, either due to pressure form the label or possibly they just like pop songs, but they aren't really bad pop songs just not what you'd expect from the band that wrote "Lost Symphonies".
There are still quite a few songs that have potential and with 56 minutes of music, I'm sure there is plenty to like in there. Well it seems I will be buying this album. But please Saosin, for album #3 comeback with something to really shut the haters up. Everyone knows you have the skill and talent to write a mind blowing record. Just don't take another 3 years to do it
I think I'll post full impressions sometime in the next two weeks. Once I have the album in my hands. thanks for reading. Share your thoughts in the replies, ya know if ya want to.
UPDATE My newer impressions are in the blog right above this one.
Seriously guys. I heard about 6 tracks off the album, and it's just so bland. Where are the killer riffs? Where are the interesting lyrics? Where is the awesome song structure?
This was one of my most anticipated albums of the year and (much like Red Jumpsuit) I'm disappointed. Hopefully the tracks I haven't heard yet will change my opinion of the album, but I'm not feeling too hyped right now.
And honestly the lyrics are so boring. Emery's new album is mostly a break-up album too, and I love those lyrics so it can't be just the topic being covered. I'm just not hearing much that would pull me back for repeated listens over several months.
Right now I'm too disappointed to hear anymore. Hopefully the album goes up for streaming soon so I can get a better idea (I listened to a few songs though meh youtube quality)
If you haven't heard the new Emery album I DEFINITELY suggest giving it a listen. It's called ...In Shallow Seas We Sail.
