I need to update this a lot more often. I've been slacking and it's time to step up. So to get things started, I decided to post what a list of albums that I've been rocking to the past few weeks/months.
Initially, this album didn't do much for me. It's been a grower. He's pulled me in with his unique style and flow and sick chunky beats. It helps that he references Mitch Hedberg, The Big Lebowski, Fugazi, and Isis.
This is an album that I always resort to. Since having this album in my possession, I listen to it, on average, once a week. There's just something so melodic, precious, and sustaining about this album. This is a must have for those hardcore Elliott Smith and Nick Drake fans.
Many of the songs remind me of knock-off (Knockout) Fall Out Boy songs. Actually, some people might dig this, as they may think this is the turn they wanted FOB to make. Some may be into it for the mere fact that it was produced by Anthony Raneri (Bayside). Something with it doesn't sit well with me, however. I don't know, this is just my first real listen. Maybe it will settle better with a few more listens. "Safe and Sound", "Can't Turn Around", and "Something's Changed In Me" are some stand out tracks at the moment. I will give this a few more listens throughout the weekend to give myself a final, determined answer.
3EB. This band brings back some ultimate memories. I can tell you exactly where I was, how old I was, and what I was doing the first time I heard the single "Semi-Charmed Life". Pure nostalgia at best. Times were so much better back then. If I only knew half what I know now back then....
I don't mean the sport. Though, yes, you should be watching the playoffs (go Ducks!), this is about the band hockey. These Portland, OR, boys will be the next big thing that hits AP. Jump on and enjoy the ride. The sound varies from track to track but continually resembles LCD Soundsystem and The Strokes. I can see many of these tracks being spun in those indie-hipster clubs in L.A.; not that that's a bad thing. Exposure is exposure.
Besides the new mewithoutYou and Manchester Orchestra, this album has been on my list of most anticipated albums. I must say that the patient wait is finally over and well worth it. The production on the album is really good. Really, really good. More thoughts on this coming soon. I need to give it more listens and more focused attention, rather than listening and watching the Star Wars marathon on Spike.
Believe me, this album will be on many EOTY lists.
These Ann Arbor, Michigan, area boys are causing quite a stir. They are giving away their debut There's Always Next Year free through AP.net, which made it a big hit with many of the members. Now, it seems that every where you turn Anton is namedropping the band. And rightfully so! These guys are like a nice tall glass of lemonade on a hot day, refreshing and crisp. The lyrics have a personal touch that make them easy to relate to. Clear, distinct vocals make it easy to understand, yet, still, the instruments bring the power behind it, without it, well, being overpowering. These guys have found a very special place amongst our little community and we hope they stick around. Why don't you help them out and give them a listen.
The Injured List - Crazy
The Injured List - Lost!
The Injured List - Sure Things
These three tracks are my favorite standout tracks from the album.
This was posted on my blogspot, that I have since deleted. I wanted to post it somewhere so here it is!
Alright, so here it is; my 2008 End of the Year list. To be honest, there are some albums that should be ranked higher, some that should be added, and some that shouldn't be there. But, let's face it, I'm lazy and don't want to bother with this list. I know there were some albums that I completely missed, so if you see any that deserved attention, please(!) leave me a comment and I will check them out. I'm all about finding new music. So with all that being said, here it is!

I'm taking a step back
out of my skin; exposed and vulnerable.
Change, realization, irrationality, no motivation. I'm sick of being tired, tired of being sick
Too much energy, not enough supply;
haven't slept for weeks I want to live and love and write it down
I need something good in my life.
Here's another toast to another year alone.
I just want to walk away
I want to write but there's a consequence
That all my friends read everything I do and I say
I don't need a razorblade
All I need are sounds of ecstasy
My heart is beating again.
With every deep breath I try to slow it down.
"Don't you see what is happening?"
No, this isn't a good time
The Magic 8-Ball reads "Try Again Later".
"Love is just too much now"
The signals are too clear; transmission received.
So, where do we go from here?
Can't decide who or what you want
Third time is a charm (shouldn't this sound off an alarm?)
I'm calling a timeout, I need some time to unwind
