Evolving musical taste
03/16/10 at 12:34 AM by bouttogetfancy
Sometimes, I wonder how different my music taste would be if I didn't have certain people in my life, visited certain websites (mainly this one) or had never been exposed to certain gateway bands. Would I be all about the bands and other musical acts I make a point to stay away from. I shudder at the thought of this hypothetical me owning a Metro Station album. I guess all I can say is that I'm thankful for having the music I listen to in my life, to be friends with great people (off and online) and to have a continuing interest in finding more music to listen to.

Currently loving:
The Antlers - Hospice
Fang Island - s/t
Los Campesinos! - Romance is Boring
Lady Gaga - Telephone (video)

and I know better days will come
12/17/09 at 03:10 AM by bouttogetfancy
I was about to head to bed when the internet pulled me back into my desk chair and now I've ended up on the blog writing page. Sigh.
Let's see, I still have no job and not for lack of trying. My lease ends this month and my options are to spend more money here as I keep searching or go back home. I'm leaning towards home while applying from there because if I do miraculously do get an interview then I can crash at a friend's place for a day or so. The push towards staying here is pretty strong though considering I get quite bored in my small hometown with no car or reliable transit system. Also, I have the opportunity to volunteer at the aquarium affiliated with the oceanography school here and that would help bringing me closer to my marine conservation research goals.

It's been such a great year for music and when making my year end list it's going to suck to have to leave out artists that I didn't get chance to listen to enough this year. There are also the albums that got lost in my itunes until it was too late for them to really contend with the albums I listened to a lot during the year. I posted a rough draft last month and there's definitely some changes but that's kind of close to who is going to be on there.

The holidays are going to be both good and bad. I'm just hoping to make it out the end of this year ok. I didn't proof read too much so I apologize if I sound less coherent than usual.

Overwhelmed
08/27/08 at 11:22 PM by bouttogetfancy
I'm a bit overwhelmed thinking about all the music that is yet to come out of this year. It's going to be a lot to take in because I'm pretty slow at doing so. I keep listening to the new The Stiletto Formal tracks over and over again. This is not going to be disappointing. It's possibly going to be AOTY, for me. The rapping that's on "sleeping out way to the top" definitely grew on me. The lyrics are very stiletto.

Also, the new Nurses which is slated to come soon, haha.

I've been stressing myself out over the process of growing up. Paying bills, doing my thing, which is strange because I'm a very independent person but lately it's all been very taxing. I'm probably just growing tired of the routine because it hasn't changed for over a year. It's all fine and dandy but change is very much welcomed. Too bad I won't be able to attempt any until I'm done with my degree and then I can make some kind of great leap forward (hopefully). I messed up on how I'm going to finish my minor plan and so now I'll have to switch classes around re-do my schedule for fall. I also have to take a risk in which of the labs that I'll attempt to take. It doesn't help that all the bio majors are required two and yet the classes are small and there aren't many to chose from each quarter. It could end up screwing me up if I don't finish that requirement. I just want to be done. I'm also getting a new roommate, if all goes well, in the middle off next month and I'm hoping for the best. Even though I don't start for a month class and school has been on my mind a lot.

Oh, and with next week's check I'm going to open up a savings account so I can go somewhere on spring break because I've never been anywhere. Europe is my goal, if I'm able.
