I've had my heart set on a getting a record player for months, and my friend Mike showed up to my place with one in tow on Record Store Day, of all days! Needless to say, I shopped in celebration. I got ....
Okkervil River - The Stand Ins
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - Madonna
Rites of Spring - End on End
Liars Academy - No News Is Good News
Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
This little addition to my life has made me a very happy girl. New speakers are a must.
1) Although I don't collect vinyl, it's cool. I fully support the collection and if I could (aka, had the funds), I'd be a buying machine. So I don't. I do own Purple Rain on vinyl though, I hope that gives me a couple noteworthy points.
2) Vinyl Collective only releases vinyl reissues and the company is cooperative, so it's like a group project. Team work is a beautiful thing, especially when it comes to music.
3) It's doing well. And it releases a very specific format. A glowing example of what fresh business models can do. There is tons of potential in this venture, and I'm excited to see what paths Dickerson takes.
4) The Collective are music fans. They are better music fans than I.
I'm beyond excited to be helping them release new material/re-introduce themselves into the music world. Stay tuned for many more exclusives. They're in the studio, makin' tunes and priming away at the second coming. I'm just glad I can be hypothetically be there.
Tonight, I will post my Atreyu and Dr. Manhattan interviews. Tonight, I will finish interview questions for Anti-Flag. Tonight, I will knock out some short reviews and hopefully start on a long one. Tonight, I will head into a major planning session for my next Unsigned Band Merch Hook-Up. I need to read some Hiroshima for class too and maybe work on my multimedia package for Writing For New Media.
Also, listen to Decibully. AAA-mazing. Then again, they are a Polyvinyl band.
