Hey, yeah, I know the name of this website sucks. I was 15 when I created it, cut me some slack. And while we're at it: I'm not punk, I'm not emo, I'm not hardcore, and I'm not indie. I'm a music fan and that's all I'll ever claim to be.
I'm Jason Tate and I founded this website. I’m a writer, music enthusiast, web-developer, typography geek, podcaster, and a coffee and beer snob.
Sometime around 1996 I created absolutepunk.net -- a music community to discuss underappreciated music I loved. Over the next few years, it got popular. Then it got really popular. The goal of the website was to introduce people to new music and provide a community for people to discuss music that was not often heard in the mainstream. Oh, and for me to whine and moan about things I felt like to a chorus of "why is this news!?" posts. In 2004 I (sold-out and) sold the company to SpinMedia while staying on to consult and manage a variety of other music properties. If you're interested in finding out more about me, check out my blog: chorus.fm. I write there pretty frequently about music, technology, and really anything that comes to mind and doesn't make sense for AP.net.
I also do consulting for bands, tech companies, websites, design, and things like that. Interested in working together on a project? Reach out and let's talk.
