The first albums that kind of opened my eyes to "rock" (that's way too general of a term) were Sticks and Stones and Catalyst, both by New Found Glory. Basically, Transatlanticism, Bat Out of Hell, most Yellowcard albums, most Weezer albums (my favorite is Pinkerton because I'm such a poser), Enema of The State, Ben Folds in general, etc.
This is a very rough (and short) list, but this is a mix of current and absolute all time favorite bands right now:
New Found Glory, Yellowcard, Death Cab for Cutie, Eisley, The Beatles, Weezer, Jason Mraz, House of Heroes, Emery, The Myriad, Motion City Soundtrack, Vampire Weekend, Hellogoodbye, Brighten, Sugarcult, Bon Jovi, Styx, The Coming Weak, Cary Brothers, Dropkick Murphy's, Five For Fighting, Guster, Jack's Mannequin, Jack Johnson, Kara's Flowers, Meat Loaf, Reel Big Fish, Relient K, Say Anything, The Format, Skillet, Snow Patrol, Switchfoot, The Bravery, The Postal Service, The Fratellis, The Fray, The Shins, Jimmy Eat World, The Who, Paramore, Queen, Beck, Coldplay, Bloc Party, We Are Scientists, and the great Weird Al.
