Today we are launching the first-ever AP.net Fantasy Football Challenge! With the help of our friend Dan from The Wonder Years, we've set up 18 fantasy football leagues where you can get the chance to play with members from a bunch of different bands from our community. Each of the band members has picked a charity for their league to represent, and at the end of the football season, one winner will be chosen to receive all of the proceeds. Each entry requires a submission of $20 – again, all to go to charity at the end of the season. Throughout the season, we'll be posting weekly standings from each league, along with a "Start'Em, Sit'Em" column brought to you by one of our...

You smell that? That's the promise of autumn - brisk wind, leaves falling, and hot cider. It's my favorite time of year so I'm especially ecstatic that 2013 saved some of the very best releases for the coming Fall months. A handful of staff members put their brains together to put out a small list of the albums we can't wait to hear. Check it out in the replies and let us know what we got right, wrong, and what your personal list would look like.

This week on the Self Promotion Forum, I found the excellent Pillow Talk. Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, the band features members of the lovely Looking For Alaska but have changed from the alt-rock tinged pop punk of LFA to a far more subdued, emo affair. Their recent singles "Never Made It Home" and "Selfless" have the feel of Moving Mountains hanging out with Brand New in Count Your Lucky Stars' office. Their music is available as 'name your price' on their Bandcamp. I can almost guarantee that if you're still reading, you'll like these guys. Summer's slipping away and the smell of autumn is emerging from the not-too-distant future. The month of August features a handful of fine albums that'll make the transition of seasons a little smoother. My five most anticipated albums for August range from a couple of pop-rock's finest to some of the best heavy albums of the year. The month is a good primer for the craziness that's going to be September (seriously, have you seen what's releasing that month?!?). Anyways, check out my list in the replies and feel free to discuss the albums you're anticipating next month.

Cynicism isn't wisdom, it's a lazy way to say that you've been burned. It seems, if anything, you'd be less certain after everything you ever learned.
Kelly DohertyI've fallen in love with Nana Grizol, so everyone should listen to them. Kodaline's In A Perfect World, Windings' It's Never Night and Halves' Boa Howl have also been on rotation.

This week on the Self Promotion Forum, I discovered the lovely Keeler. I'm super excited about them and despite the fact that they have only released two tracks (both of which are available for free on their Bandcamp.), they've already got the modern emo sound nailed. Their new single "Shoot The Jay", from their upcoming EP, sounds quite a bit like Snowing and their overall vibe is jazzy modern emo. Download their two songs and get stoked for their EP, Too Old To Believe In Ghosts, which will be released in September. Interested in being a part of the Self-Promotion Spotlight? Staying in on a weekend often has negative connotations, but who doesn't enjoy time to themselves once in a while with some good tunes and fine wine (or beer!)? Some of my favourite albums began to resonate with me on a deeper level when I was absorbed by the music coming out of my headphones the entire night. And tonight is precisely one of those nights: I'm surrounded with incredible new music by The Civil Wars, Eric & Magill and Typhoon, as well as some delicious Cabernet Merlot, and I couldn't be happier. So if you're out there also doing nothing other than enjoying the company of some great music, then come say hello and share those tunes!

The ninth episode of the AbsolutePunk.net Podcast is now available for your enjoyment. In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Touché Amoré's Jeremy Bolm. I could talk with Jeremy all day about music and records and we almost did, as we discussed the inspiration behind the artwork of the band's upcoming new album, Is Survived By, his record label Secret Voice, and the hobby of collecting vinyl.
