Varying heavily from the format of recent talks, my newest "Behind the Bits" with stand-up legend Andy Kindler focuses much, much less on his career and places the spotlight on current comedy events and the state of the industry as a whole. While I'm biased, I consider this one a must-listen, even for non-comedy followers. There's not much else I can say without pointing you to the stream, so head over and give it a listen. It's lengthy, but it's the most enlightening conversation I've had with anyone in a very, very long time. Be sure to check back next week, when my guest is stand-up comic and the voice of Bob's Burgers' Gene Belcher, Eugene Mirman.
Today we're happy to announce that AP.net and PropertyOfZack will partake in an unofficial post-Riot Fest night at Red Door in Chicago this Friday. The night will feature a playlist chosen by Zack and I, so rest assured that the tunes will be good unless you hate everything we like. You can see all the information on Facebook; our playlist will start at midnight (one hour following Fall Out Boy's set). Since a lot of forum members have been asking about a community meet-up in Chicago, we figured this would be a great time to invite everyone to come together, listen to some good music and hang out following Riot Fest's first day. Hope to see everyone out there! Also: Uber will be offering...

This week on the Self Promotion Forum, I came across a post from Mark Garza, the co-owner of Funeral Sounds Records and music blog. Mark is a very good friend of mine and, despite being only fifteen years old, he's doing great things for the music scene with Funeral Sounds. Head over to the label's Bandcamp where great records from the likes of nouns, Surgery In An Opera and Charlotte Light and Dark are available as 'name your price' and check out their blog which covers a lot of little emo and post-hardcore bands. Because of his mantra of trying to cover pretty much every submission he gets and because he's just a really nice guy, make sure you support Mark's work if you like either the...
After conferring with The AP.net staff and editors from PunkNews.org, PropertyofZack, and UndertheGun, we have put together a playlist of all the best music we loved from August. You can check that out in the replies and make sure you didn't miss anything great.
If you're a music fan, then you love the fall - great weather and a plethora of great tour packages to check out. Head to the replies to check out my Top 5 upcoming fall tours. What tours are you excited about? Let us know.
Just a friendly reminder to make sure you check us out on other social networks. We are on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Last.fm, and Rdio. The AP.net staff can also be found elsewhere online, this post highlights where. Show us some love.
This week Jason and I kind of nerd out with Tom Chiari, guitarist of Hostage Calm and Run For Cover Records label manager. We discussed the killer 2013 RFC is having thus far and a bunch of cool insider-type topics that most people may not know about smaller labels and how they operate. We also talk a little Hostage Calm as well.
You can subscribe to this podcast in a variety of ways: via iTunes, your own RSS feed (instructions below), or streaming/downloading the mp3 in the replies. You can also find our previous episodes on iTunes and SoundCloud. As always, we hope you enjoy.
Happy football, people. The NFL season kicks off today and with it begins our inaugural season of AP.net Fantasy Football. Along with our awesome participating band members, we've combined to raise over $2,500 for charity this year! To refresh yourself on what I'm talking about, check out the original post. Now, as a reminder, we'll have regular columns like "Start'em / Sit'Em" beginning next week. But right now you can jump to the replies to check out the starting lineups for each of our participating band members' teams. Who had the best draft? Why does Jack from All Time Low have Tim Tebow starting at quarterback? Discuss the draft results in the replies and keep up with our fantasy...
We're continuing our coverage of Riot Fest 2013 this week in a slightly oddball way. You won't find a list of things to do or bands to watch in this feature, but instead, we're bringing you something more applicable to your daily life. If you follow @RiotFest on Twitter, you already know that whoever manages their account is an American hero. Couple this with the fact that social media is very serious business these days – no, really, the Internet is super serious – and it only made sense to ask this mystery tweeter to compile a "How To Tweet" clinic for us. Also, remember to pick up your Riot Fest tickets for Chicago and Denver if you haven't yet.
So I know it's Thursday, but a couple things got swapped around last second, and so there was a bit of a delay and change on my latest installment of Behind the Bits; things will be back to normal next Wednesday with my guest Andy Kindler. For now, though, head on over to my blog to listen to my half-hour chat with the always-hilarious podcast master Jimmy Pardo. Slight disclaimer: while the audio is far better than it was on my previous chat with Neil Campbell, there's still some kinks being worked out.
The summer may be winding down, but Yellowcard is just about to kick Ocean Avenue Acoustic into high gear with its upcoming fall tour. To get excited for that, the guys are hanging out in this thread at 4 PM EST to talk about its recent acoustic album, the upcoming tour, and anything else. So make sure you mark this date on your calendar!
Update: The band had to go back to rehearsing for its upcoming tour, but we are very thankful that they all decided to take time out of their days to chat with us. Make sure to pick up Ocean Avenue Acoustic today and tickets are still available for its fall tour!
We recently interviewed ex-Against Me! bassist Andrew Seward about this newest musical project, which happens to be a band called Human Parts. The group is officially releasing it's self-titled debut next week on September 10th.
When I parted ways with Against Me! I kind of started working all day and when I’d come home my whole goal was to not just become a sloth and play video games or stuff like that. I wanted to be a good father and partner and just be creative whenever I could. And that’s what I did, I just started focusing and using my spare time to record.
Finally. My favorite time of the year is here - the leaves change colors, the wind gets a bit brisker for hoodie weather, and football is on television all weekend. Another perk of the fall is how many great albums are releasing this month and beyond. In fact, September is so stacked with anticipated releases that I asked a couple of staff members to add in their own blurbs to we could cover more ground and I wouldn't break my "Countdown" rules. So check out our most anticipated albums for the month of September in the replies and let us know what you're really excited for in the ninth month of 2013.
50 down, 50 more to go. We're halfway through this year's batch of the Absolute 100. Hope you're ready to look through another group of 25 artists we think are going to be worth your time in 2013 and beyond and become your new favorite. Let us know what you think about this week's portion. Check back next week at this time for Part Three.
This week on the Self Promotion Forum, I found one of my favourite bands in the forum in recent times. Greaver are a four piece post-hardcore band from North Carolina who easily fall in to the emo world. Their recent debut EP, Clockwork, Creatures, is an intense emotional rollercoaster filled with urgent screams and epic instrumentation. Bringing to mind State Faults, Greaver have already created a thrilling, outstanding EP despite their musical youth. The EP is available as 'name your price' on their Bandcamp. Check them out, you won't regret it. Interested in being a part of the Self-Promotion Spotlight? It's easy, just sign up for an AbsolutePunk.net account and post in the...
