“There’s really not a lack of women,” he [Kevin Lyman] says, interrupting me before I’ve finished asking the first question. “If you’ve got 20 bands that have women in them out of 120 bands, that’s one out of six bands.”
“You think that’s OK?” I ask, surprised that he would be so comfortable with such a one-sided ratio.
“That’s absolutely OK,” he says.
Update: Kevin Lyman has posted a variety of responses on Twitter.
I encourage @mseling to start her own music festival, she has good taste in music and seems to have it figured out.
Warped Tour is now accepting applications for its Peer Safety Volunteer Team. If you are looking for a way to give back to Warped Tour and help others make sure they have a safe day while you get to see your favorite bands for free -- this is a good way to do it. If you have any questions feel free to email Tiffany.
The main purpose of the team is to insure the safety of everyone at the Vans Warped Tour. Whether it’s to help them with a small cut or with a life threating illness, we are here for them. The organization wants to ensure that a serious injury never happens at the Vans Warped tour. We want to help everyone regardless of the situation. We are the eyes and ears of the medical...
Last year, Jake Luhrs (August Burns Red) took his non-profit organization Heartsupport on the road with the Warped Tour. They're working hard on being able to return this summer, and they're currently accepting donations to be able to achieve this goal. For more information, check out my interview with Jake from last summer.
You can bring a parent to Warped Tour for free again this year.
Warped offers one complimentary parent/guardian admission to accompany a minor (under 18) that has purchased a ticket to a 2014 Warped Tour show. The complimentary ticket can ONLY be picked up at the white Vans Warped guest list tent located near the front entrance of the venue. The complimentary ticket is non-transferrable and the patron must show proof (Actual ticket, receipt or electronic order confirmation) at the tent. Limit one complimentary ticket per party
The Warped Tour's Acoustic Basement has announced its line-up for this summer, including Anthony Raneri, Mike Herrera, Bad Rabbits, Young Statues, I the Mighty, Elder Brother, Allison Weiss, Brian Marquis and more. The full list can be found in the replies.
The routing of the Vans Warped Tour schedule for this summer has changed due to scheduling conflicts. The Houston, San Antonio and Dallas, TX dates of the tour are now at the beginning from June 13th-15th, and the Salt Lake City, UT and Denver, CO dates are now on August 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Check the replies for all the dates.
Over the weekend at the UK Warped Tour, Watsky stage dove from about 35 feet up off the lighting rig and broke a girl's arm. Photos and video footage can all be found here.
He added: 'I feel f****** terrible. I made a boneheaded decision that got people hurt, and it's extremely lucky it wasn't worse. Putting your own body on the line is one thing, but putting other people in harm's way is inexcusable. I let down my supporters, I let down the Warped Tour and I let down my band and the people who work their asses off behind the scenes to make these shows happen. My #1 priority right now is to somehow make this right for the folks who were hurt.
A video interview with Kevin Lyman can be found over at Billboard. Kevin talks about "how the Warped Tour and some of the bands he's worked with [...] have come full-circle from indie to major and back to indie again. Plus, he spoke about his new microbrew, the importance of monetization and getting "YouTubers" to play Warped."
Last week, an article on OC Weekly featured a quote from Touche Amore frontman Jeremy Bolm where he said his band would never play the Warped Tour. In the ensuing slew of opinions on the Internet responding to the quote, AltPress editor Scott Heisel commented that if you'd asked Touche Amore three years ago whether they'd open for AFI in 1,500-cap rooms, they probably would have said no. Bolm responded to this with a hell of a statement, a fraction of which is below. The rest is in the replies.
There is a world of difference playing alongside a band like AFI and a band like Atilla. My problem is playing alongside bands EVERY DAY that represent things that make my skin crawl.
Another Warped Tour ... another year of beef between bands. The Amity Affliction frontman, Joel Birch, is caught on video (in the replies) openly berating Memphis May Fire's vocalist Matty Mullins. It appears it may have had something to do with this tweet?
I See Starsmissed today's New Jersey date on Warped Tour. The reason? An anonymous tip from someone on the tour told me the band was kicked off today's date because they "never unload the stage truck."
According to a recent tweet from Bring Me The Horizon front man Oli Sykes, bands are no longer allowed to ask concert-goers to perform the wall of death or mosh anymore. An update provided to PropertyOfZack states that "according to insurance policies, bands must refrain from using the terms mentioned above" and that it "makes it easier for insurance companies to cover injured attendees of Warped Tour." So just don't move at these things anymore, okay?
