Hey all, I know some of you don't like me offering my opinion in news posts, but it is my opinion that everyone should have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving ... as well as a great "after Thanksgiving sit-on-my-ass-and-veg" day. Stay safe and eat lots.

It's already almost Thanksgiving, where the hell did this year go? Well, as the year is winding down we're beginning to think of our favorite albums of 2013 and that means we're collecting lists from bands, staff, and industry folk to include in our yearly feature (related: our 2012 feature). If you're in a band, work for a label, or are involved in the industry -- we want to feature your favorite albums of the year in our end of the year database. We've made it super simple again this year: just email us your lists to this address and make sure you make it clear who the list is for (if you're in a band, is it a band list, or is it an individual band member list? If you work at a record...

This week on the Self Promotion Forum, I happened upon a Long Island five piece Sunning. The post-hardcore band got together in 2012 and have just released their fourth release. The five track EP, Losing Youth is a blistering, sad collection of Touchť Amore -esque epic post-hardcore which will tug at the coldest of heartstrings. Not only that, but it's 'name your price' on their Bandcamp, so there's no excuse to not check it out! Interested in being a part of the Self-Promotion Spotlight? It's easy, just sign up for an AbsolutePunk.net account and post in the Self-Promotion forum.

On this week's episode of the podcast, Drew and I sat down to talk with Cyrus and Steve of New Found Glory. I can't even explain how great it was to have the guys on and how hilarious the conversation ended up being -- I know it seems like I say this every week, but this was one of my favorite episodes we've done yet. Hit the replies for the stream and download.

Living Phantoms is the new project of Will Benoit, singer and guitarist of Constants, and today they released their Shiver EP via The Mylene Sheath. I've spent the past few hours sitting here working while enjoying the great view of my snow-covered neighbourhood (Canada eh), and this EP could not have hit my speakers at a better time; this beautiful and ethereal music is just perfect, and I can't decide if it's a good thing that I'm completely lost in these melodies the way I am right now, but I would be lying if I said that I'm not loving every minute of it. "The Mylene Sheath strikes again!" were my first thoughts, and I feel even more convinced now that this will end up being one of my...

This week on the Self Promotion Forum, I came across Bombardier, a post-rock four piece from Virginia. They've just released their debut EP, You Don't Know How Lucky You Are , which is five tracks of epic sounding, instrumental prettiness. Bringing to mind the likes of Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai and The Appleseed Cast, Bombardier's debut is sure to win over any current post-rock fan. The EP is available as 'name your price' on their Bandcamp, so check it out! Interested in being a part of the Self-Promotion Spotlight? I worked with AP.net user John Boles (Align in Time), you may have seen him around the site, to post an interview with Matthew Healy from The 1975. It's worth grabbing a beer, tossing on their latest album, and reading straight through.
I kind of became a parody of myself. All of these elements of my personality that Iíve spoken about on the record were being validated by people really liking it, so I was becoming more and more like that, an excuse to be at my most, you know, polarizing and my personality, that was being endorsed by those people, and itís even more like that now. If I wanted to, I could become more and more and more like myself; Iím very aware of that, Iím very aware...

Earlier this week, NPR asked if musics reviews matter to listeners. So let's pose the question here: do you still read reviews every day? Do you read them to get a different view point on what your listening to? Do you check them out to generate a conversation?
These days, I'm not so sure negative reviews have as much of an effect. If someone wants to know whether or not they like a record, they'll probably just listen to it online somewhere. It really depends on the band and where it is in its lifespan. A stellar, four- or five-star review for a new or emerging artist could be huge for them. It looks good in press releases and ads. Pull quotes end up on album cover stickers, and the...

Thereís definitely some intentionally autobiographical material in almost everything Iíve ever written. I guess you could say my life or my experience thus far is the most cooperative muse. I make very consistent mistakes in my life. I learn hard lessons, and I learn about those things through an abstractive externalization of them. I think thatís what a lot of artists do. Youíll draw out the things youíre feeling when youíre writing them down and form them into clever little...
