From The Interview It’s kind of balancing itself out. For years it seemed that the public persona, or the failure — or the perception of failure — dominated the conversation. But now with Oceania as a bookend toward a musical legacy, everything seems to be getting its own balance. Like the albums that deserve attention, the influence we had, my influence, for better or worse — it all seems to be balancing out.

PureVolume recently sat down with Chris Carrabba of Further Seems Forever to talk about the band's reformation as well as what the future holds for the band.
From The Interview I think we carried along the tastes we gained along the way as musicians and players. The stuff that we did in the '90s or the' 00s sounded contemporary at the time because that's what things sounded like then and that's what was influencing us. Between now and then, that's twelve years of listening to new bands every day and approaching our instruments differently all the time. So we're always going to sound like us, but for us to sound like we did back then we would have to try; we would have to decide to make a...

From The InterviewThis is some of the most personal music we've written in a long time, and I think for that reason, it felt right to have people who were really close to us and who we really valued as artists on the record this time around. We're not featuring people on the record because we want to put their name next to the song title.

From The InterviewBut it seems like things are even crazier now. But it’s different sides of the same thing – in the title track, ultimately, I wanna offer some hope to the world. Like ‘Hey, we know things suck, and it sucks for everybody. But you’ve gotta keep in mind that things will get better, that this, too, shall pass.’ But there is a flip side to it, like “Secrets From the Underground,” where I’m saying that a lot of people have gotten hurt, but now it’s gone beyond the hurt to where people are just fucking pissed.

Check out PureVolume's interview Baroness frontman John Baizley here.
From The InterviewIt’s incredibly difficult to keep it pure, because everything in the industry seeks to dilute that purity. I understand that, and I understand there’s not really anything you can do about it. It is an absolute necessary evil. I want to play music, and I want to feel passionately about playing music. I can do that on the street corner, put a little tin cup out in front of myself, and hope that my daughter has food tonight, but it doesn’t work like that. So you’re intrinsically at odds with the purity of the art form from the very beginning.

From The InterviewWe are all writing new stuff, and there is definitely a commitment to record at some point. But we also have our regular lives, and I don’t think any of us can drop everything to spend a few months in the studio. Basically, any recording will likely be stretched out over a long period, as we share files and fit things in around our regular schedules.

PureVolume sat down with Anthony Green (Circa Survive) to discuss the band's new album and DIY approach.
From The InterviewI know that the people who listen to our music are epic fans and they’re the people who like the same kind of really passionate, emotional art — the kind that has dark and light. We’re never going to be that kind of giant, marketable band. I feel like we’re the kind of band that are more of the outcast type, the artist type, for people that are a little more eccentric. I could be totally wrong (laughs) but that’s how it seems to me! That’s always been what I’ve been trying to do. We’ve always tried to work with people who would market the band’s weirdness, and I...
