In February I started recording, without a record deal or any sort of plan in place, completely on my own resources. I recruited friend and Fountains of Wayne drummer Brian Young to lay down some drum tracks and before I knew it we had the record tracked. Then came the question of how we would finance it; pay the people involved, get it mixed and mastered and out.
I Fight Dragons have raised $50,000 in 36 hours to fund their new album/vinyl release via Kickstarter. As a result, they have added additional "stretch goals" - whenever the campaign reaches a new milestone, backers will receive additional rewards for their original contributions. For example, the $20/double gatefold w/ companion graphic novel has become a triple gatefold w/ companion graphic novel, fold-out poster, fluorescent blue vinyl, a 7" picture disc shaped like an 8-bit fireball, and an exclusive flexi-disc with a thank you and secret music.

Robbie Mackey has been named as Mom+Pop's new head of marketing.
"Over the past few months we've been looking at the best way to structure our marketing endeavors as we look to grow," wrote Mom+Pop label head Michael Goldstone in a statement. "It became obvious to us that Robbie was the most qualified to run it. We stand in a time where the line between marketing and online has shifted to be one in the same, and Robbie’s keen knowledge of both arenas makes him the perfect choice for this position."
Metro Station have set up an indiegogo campaign for a new EP. I'm not one to usually make jokes about these things ... but shouldn't some of that "Achy Breaky Heart" fuck-you-money help fund this? Or did they boot that guy out of this band? I'm confused. Anyway ... um ... yeah.
Distances have launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund their upcoming full-length record. You can still download the band's self-titled EP for free if you haven't heard it yet.
i've spent many years touring with my chemical romance as their keyboard player and over those years i realized that i am without a doubt, a silly person, i write silly music, say silly things, i generally have a very absurd look on life. Reggie, is how i share that silliness with all of you. I've always been honest with my music. Whatever goes on in my life i write music about.
BandPage has launched "Experiences," a new service that allows fans to buy music, concert tickets, lessons, face time, and other unique "experiences" from some of their favorite artists.
For $150, users can guarantee five minutes and a photo with George Clinton. A 30-minute guitar lesson with Black Label Society founder Zakk Wylde via Skype costs $2,500. And two tickets for that side stage view of a Stars' show will set you back $100.
This support helps out with all the costs of touring the country and makes my touring experience better, for your show experience to be awesome. The perks are over there to the right of your screen, and as you can see the more you help contribute, the cooler the perk is. Shout outs, skate, photos, be side stage for the show, and customized songs just for you. All these perks and more are just a few mouse clicks away! Your generousity helps with gas, food, lodging, and ever rising costs of touring.
Austrian Death Machine (As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis) has launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund his new album, Triple Brutal, and a tour. If you have $5,000 to blow, your initials could be tattooed on Lambesis' butt.
Bruce Springsteenwas honored as the MusiCares Person of The Year, and the tribute concert featured Elton John, Tom Morello, Neil Young, Mumford & Sons and others playing classic songs by The Boss to raise money for charity. Springsteen also auctioned off a signed guitar, but the auction wasn't going that well, so...
Springsteen took the microphone and upped the ante, throwing in a free guitar lesson with himself as the teacher, a ride in the side car of his Harley, eight tickets to the E Street concert of their choice, a backstage tour and lasagna made by his 87-year-old mother, Adele. A woman from New Jersey snapped it up for $250,000, then proceeded to kiss Springsteen on his lips.
Nathan Leone from Madina Lake just launched a Kickstarter for his book, "Dont Love Me, Judge Me." You can check out two excerpts from it on the Kickstarter page.
