I really don’t know. I can tell you what I do know though… He started in on rock and roll early. He was five years old when he asked for the AC/DC album Back in Black. At the time I was pretty naive about hard rock or punk rock and when I heard the record I was shocked. Why would my sweet child want to listen to this kind of music… the lyrics clearly suggested killing your mother. Of course they didn’t suggest that… but that’s what it sounded like to me. What happened to those days of Mr. Moon? I didn’t get it… and that was pretty much the beginning of not getting it for quite a long time.
Jade Puget recently talked with the OC Register and said a new AFI album is in the works.
Though they’re not entirely sure whether XTRMST is a one-off or another side project they’ll keep around, Puget said that he and Havok are nearly finished with their third Blaqk Audio record and that a tenth studio album, from AFI is next on the list. However, if XTRMST decides to kick back up again, Puget said he’s definitely not short on ideas.
I was extremely reticent to scream like that at all—ever. In fact, I’m not ever inspired to do it at all, except with XTRMST. Writing this record, it felt that [screaming] was the natural way to deliver those messages and those words. I imagine some people will think, “They want to play hardcore, he misses screaming.” Not at all. I have no interest in screaming except in this context. It was the message that made me want to do that.

Davey Havok from AFI is acting in and co-producing a new movie about punks and skins in the 90s, called The Violent. The filmmakers are currently running a crowdfunding campaign to raise pre-production funds and help build awareness for the project.
Set in the mid 90s amongst a tight-knit group of punks and skins, “The Violent" follows a teenager in his final year of high school as he is drawn down a path of crime, and must ultimately reconcile his own violent nature, or be consumed by it. “The Violent” is an independent film, financed by private investors, and the awesome public at large who want to see this movie get made. That’s you! This campaign’s initial goal of $20,000 allows us...

At the time of the creation of our record Burials, those themes and emotions were very present in my life, unfortunately. Before going on stage, it’s more of a calm and a focus. A lot of those emotions are what we’re creating on stage. Though it may be a bleak sentiment, the unification of people expressing that catharsis has a positive result at times.”
Your passion for music will lead to many opportunities. You’re smart enough to know which of them to seize. I have no doubt of that. You have a lot of hard work in front of you, but you will enjoy it, and when you become me (I know that’s a weird phrase) you will have plenty to show for your efforts. Follow your heart, be true to yourself and remain curious about the world around you.
Looking back on AFI’s now 9 albums and I believe 10 EPs, it’s no wonder they have such a legacy. The new Burials is a solid album, proving they haven’t lost any part of their touch along the way. Not only have they experimented with their sound throughout each record, they have managed to keep quite a strong core fan base over the course of 20 years. That alone is something to be said, and this sold out show proved just that.

The Cali-based band recorded with producer Gil Norton (Pixies, Patti Smith, Foo Fighters) at East West Studios in Los Angeles. The record was mixed by Andrew Scheps (Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
