Last year, the legendary Skate and Surf Festival returned to Asbury Park after ten years away. While the man behind the scenes, John D, has the city's best interest at heart, he has made careless mistakes when booking certain performers. Last year, upon moving the festival to Asbury, the city required he remove the hip hop artist DMX from the bill, citing homophobia in his music. This year, a band called Attila is on his festival's lineup.
Skate and Surf has changed this year's location to Asbury Park (instead of Middletown, NJ), as PropertyOfZack has learned. POZ has also announced that Knuckle Puck, Unlocking The Truth, Lil Dicky, Animals As Leaders and United Nations will be playing, as well as the facts that My Chemical Romance (duh) and Brand New ((super duh)) will NOT be playing.
O'Brien will present a special event application to members of the City Council at the March 26 meeting. He has been working with Surf and Skate founder John D’Esposito to return the concert series to its Asbury roots, he said. "We hope to have everyone get behind it and be supportive in Asbury Park,” he said. “It started in Asbury and our goal is to bring it back home."
The Gunz Show sat down with John D., the creator of Skate and Surf, to discuss this year’s lineup as well as the history of the Festival. John explained how he secured a Midtown reunion, what went wrong last year, and hints at more acts to be added. He also touches base on how the venue will be set up and another upcoming tour he has planned. You can listen to it here.

Some of our inside sources have hinted at a Glassjaw/Skate and Surf announcement and ticket bundle sale Christmas Day. We're not sure what that means but we'll keep you posted as more information gets leaked.
