Riot Fest is moving from Humboldt Park to Douglas Park.
Recently, as evidenced in the media, there were those who attempted to divide the Humboldt Park community with unfair and unjust tactics that in no way represent the overwhelming majority of the 26th Ward residents and businesses. And while Riot Fest supporters stressed that without question, Riot Fest has done nothing short of showing their unparalleled devotion to the city and the neighborhood they called home, Riot Fest partners, Michael Petryshyn and Sean McKeough made the ethical decision not to allow the festival to be used as a pawn and removed Riot Fest from the conversation regarding the ever-changing face of Humboldt Park
Bad Timing Records have announced the new lineup for the Light Years and Head North tour. A Will Away has been added to the tour, No Good News has been dropped. No Good News has also deleted all of their social media presence on the internet and I'm hearing from multiple reliable sources they have disbanded.
Guitars have faded into the background of millennial music culture; rock no longer moves the needle like pop, hip-hop and even electronic dance music. When Pretty Lights (real name Derek Vincent Smith) was added to Big Guava's lineup in February, he immediately shot to the top line of the poster, leapfrogging rockers like Ryan Adams, Hozier and, yes, the Pixies.
Today’s Mixtape Festival has announced The Movielife as the first headliner - their first Long Island show in over 13 years. The full lineup and general admission tickets will relase next week, but Early Bird passes are now available.
The alderman of Humboldt Park, Chicago has stated he does not want Riot Fest to return this year:
I am exceptionally disappointed at the Riot Fest organizers for the mess they left at the park last year and their shallow and hollow promises to restore the park," Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th) said. "I don't support them coming back."
Blurwill play a free show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on May 1st (Friday). The band will be performing their brand new album, The Magic Whip, in full and you can register for tickets here. This is the band's first headline show in new York in 15 years. In addition to this, they will also be performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on April 30th. Hit the replies to catch their recent live performances on Later...with Jools Holland.
The This is Hardcore festival has posted a statement about the festival's lack of women. I guess the tacit acknowledgement is better than Skate and Surf's current tactic. Festival coordinator Joe McKay posted a longer "venting" message on Facebook as well.
This is Hardcore has recently been called out for not having enough women in the bands in this year’s line-up. We recognize that there is an issue with women being valued and given visibility in the hardcore music scene. The TIHC team is mostly made up of women, who work tirelessly to put on the fest every year. We spend months going through submissions of bands, trying to put together a diverse group of bands that pulls together old...
The Fest has announced its lineups for Fest 14 in Gainesville and Pre-Fest 3 in Little Ybor. Among the top-billed acts are Lagwagon, Desaparecidos and The Menzingers. See you in Gainesville in October!
A Great Big Pile Of Leaves' debut LP, Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?, is turning five on June 22 this year. To celebrate, the band will perform the album in its entirety at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 19; pre-sale starts today, with general public on-sale beginning Friday at this link. Here is a sentence I wrote about this record in 2010: "After my honeymoon phase with Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?, I continue to love it dearly and take it to bed with me every night."
If you're looking for a good way to watch Coachella this weekend, I recommend this page.
There's lots of acts at Coachella I want to listen to this year that are all playing on different channels. Since I'm way too lazy to remember to switch between them, I hacked this together so that I could just select all the acts I care about, and it will switch between them for me so I can just leave it on in the background. Right now it's only setup for weekend 1, but I'll update it before next weekend so that you can use the same URL to listen then also.
