5 Seconds of Summer will be playing an arena show at the Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 15th. According to the press release I just got, the band's new album "has already peaked at No. 1 globally on iTunes in 71 countries, and has secured more preorders than any other artist in the history of Universal Music Group." Oh, and Universal Music most certainly classifies them as "pop-punk" (actually, to be fair, it's "pop-punk sensations"). This sort of reminds me of when Simple Plan kind of came out of nowhere (from the ashes of Reset) and everyone did a collective, "Huh? These guys aren't pop-punk!", and now they're effectively written into the pop-punk lexicon. It seems like...

Azealia Banks really wants to be dropped from her label, Universal Music. A series of tweets explaining why have been collected over at Stereogum.
I'm literally begging to be dropped from Universal. I'm tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. they don't even know what they're listening for or to.

YouTube stripped away two billion video views from the biggest record companies after the site cracked down on alleged fake viewers. The biggest losers were Universal and Sony.
From The ArticleThe dramatic cuts came as YouTube conducted a crackdown on fake views, but music industry sources have blamed it on housekeeping related to the migration of their videos across different channels. The unprecedented move left Universal with just five videos on the site - none of which were music - and Sony with just three.

The Cab has signed to Universal Republic Records.
Message from the BandWhen our band first started, we began a fairy tale that seemed too good to be true. We collaborated with our idols on Whisper War, toured with our favorite acts, and every day held something better than the last. But when it came time to make our second album, things didnít really transpire how we envisioned. It was one of those moments when you take a long look in the mirror and see what you are made of. For us, giving up wasnít an option. We decided that no matter what it took, we were going to find a way, continue on our journey, and follow through on our promises to our fans. The release of Symphony Soldier was a...

Owl City recently spoke about his collaboration with Mark Hoppus on one of his new songs, "Dementia."
From the Article"It's definitely Blink-influenced," he said. "I've been such a fan of what they do, what Blink's done since junior high. I'll have the CD on in the car, just randomly trying to memorize the lyrics, and that song will come on and I'm like, 'Oh, that's Mark Hoppus.' It sounds like an older B-side, rarity Blink track. It's so cool. It's such an honor."
