At a recent TV Critics Association event in Los Angeles, California, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl voiced his opinion on "singing competitions":
I don't want my kid to think that the only way you can be a musician is to stand in line at a song contest audition, and then wind up having a bazillionaire tell you you're not a good singer. Don't get me started. To me, that's not what music's about.

The Foo Fighters will be releasing their new album this fall. The release will coincide with Dave's new HBO Show.
One song was recorded in each city, every song featuring local legends sitting in, and every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process.

Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters recently recalled the first time he heard Lorde's "Royals," saying it was "it was sandwiched between all of that other stripper pop." He went on to say Lorde has "something about her that represented or resembled the Nirvana aesthetic," which is why she was one of the musicians selected alongside St. Vincent, Joan Jett, and Kim Gordon to front Nirvana at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

A new interview with Nate Mendel (Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters) kind of closes the door on any more Sunny Day Real Estate music.
We're not doing anything. We had an 'interesting' reunion experience a couple of years ago where we got together out of the blue and patched up old relationships and differences and just wanted to do some reunion shows. It turned out great and it was a lot of fun and we sort of accidentally wrote a song and we were like, 'OK, why don't we try to do a record?' We spent a lot of time writing an album's worth of songs and then went to record it in Los Angeles - all of the writing had been done up in the North West where most of the guys are located - and...
