Baggage's (ex-The Swellers) debut EP, Cheaper Than Therapy, is avaialbe for pay-what-you-want on Bandcamp.
Any of the money raised from the first two months will fund the rebuilding of my friend Ron Luczak's house that was destroyed by a fire. His house is also the album artwork for this release. With all of the terrible things going on in Flint, Michigan I feel that it's time to start giving back one project at a time.
Iíve toured for close to a decade and Iíve definitely seen different types of harassment and discrimination over the years. Sometimes itís a security guard thinking a female member of a band is trying to sneak into the show or is just someoneís girlfriend, which happens often unfortunately. Iíve seen a lot of people get into arguments and physical altercations. Whether itís the venue staff and a band, fans with each other, band members with each other or any variation of the three, Iíve seen it go down.
BRAIDEDVEINS' (Jono of The Swellers) new self-titled album is now streaming on Bandcamp. The album was recorded with Marc Jacob Hudson (Against Me!, Saves The Day, Taking Back Sunday) at Rancho Recordo in Fenton, MI. You can also purchase the album on vinyl here.
Our good friend Jonathan Diener (formerly of The Swellers) has announcedhis newfull-time band (and goes from drummer to frontman for the first time). Baggage will be releasing new music in September, but for now a teaser can be found in the replies.
I am the guy standing in the back of the crowd. Iím most likely crossing my arms and not singing along. Even in a situation when thereís a circle pit, stage diving or crowd surfing, Iím most likely not participating. When the singer of the band shouts out to the show-goers for a wall of death or to clap along, I donít indulgethem. If youíre having a good time up front and look back to see me standing there, you probably think Iím trying to be cool. You probably think Iím not enjoying myself. If you assume those things, youíre in the wrong. I couldnít be cool even if I tried and Iím probably having a great time. If thatís the case, then why...
I was lucky enough to filmThe Swellers one last time at their last New England show ever last week. Head to the replies to watch the full set, in which the band performs virtually nonstop for nearly an hour and a half to a packed house with a setlist than spans their career.
Maybe we missed our big shot by not cashing in at the right time. Maybe we could have set our artistic pride aside and written the same record over and over again. Maybe we released too much music. Maybe we shouldnít have been so accessible to our fan base. Maybe we could have picked a different record label or a different manager or changed our band name a few years in. You can question yourself forever, but it wonít change a thing. I like the choices we made. I like that we took risks and kept it real.
BraidedVeins (members of The Swellers, Kid Brother Collective, Empty Orchestra) will record their debut LP in late August with Marc Hudson (Taking Back Sunday, Saves The Day, others). The band's first EP can be downloaded for free.
The Swellers are the subject of a new Ernie Ball video feature reflecting on their experience on Warped Tour this summer, which you can watch in the replies.. Nick from the band talks about how winning the Battle of the Bands years ago helped kick off The Swellers' career Ė incidentally, Ernie Ball has just picked the finalists for this year's Battle of the Bands, which can be seen on their Facebook page.
Braidedveins (The Swellers) will release their debut EP, Future/Forever, on December 21 via Save Your Generation Records. The artwork can be seen in the replies. If you missed it, you can listen to the first single here.

Today marks the 11th anniversary of The Swellers being a band. Drummer Jono Diener wrote about the occasion in his blog. He's also our featured guest on this week's upcoming AbsolutePunk Podcast, so stay tuned for that.
We were never a hype band or blew up, but weíve been slowly climbing up for years. Weíre still very much here. If anything itís time to take another swing at things. 8 months at home was too much for me. I donít think I can do that again, or at least not for a while. Maybe weíve been around a long time but it doesnít mean weíre close to being done. I think weíre better than ever. We just need someone to listen and fight for us.
