Most Instagram challenges are ridiculous, but some of the staff and a bunch of users are participating in #JanuaryRecordADay. It's one of those silly picture-a-day things, but it's vinyl, so we're all nerding out. Check out the challenge's rules in the replies, and leave your links if you're participating or want to talk vinyl.
Another #SoundNoSound clip is live, this one has vocals, a montage of some videos, and a shot of a vocalist's backside at the end. Brian Marquis, Brian Southall, and Culprit also posted their own "headphone videos" today. The timer on the website ends at 9:00am PST tomorrow. Final guesses?
Update: An AP.net user decoded the binary in the headphone videos as: "Everybody wants to lose control. Just to feel a little something that wasn't there before. Everybody hates to let things go. Clinging to the threads of what we know. The sickness longs to grow."
There's an new video up on Sound-No-Sound.com that has some audio - very programming heavy with distorted vocals throughout the track. A Great Big Pile Of Leaves, Colin Frangicetto, and Will Noon are the latest to tweet about it. The timer on the front page has just under 4 days left. Hear the sounds in the replies - anyone?
Who likes viral mysteries? The latest is the website sound-no-sound being tweeted out by quite a few musicians. After some snooping around you can find videos of Soupy Campbell, Justin Pierre, Shane Henderson, Vic Fuentes, and many others on the "control" page. And then there's also the "music box" page. We've also discovered Adam Pressley's name in the page source, who looks to be from the band Prussia. Ok, so that's what we currently know ... the rest is now in your hands.
Pop culture site Buzzfeed posted a music video called "Punch (Let's Be Real)" that went viral (not because it's good or entertaining). The Brothers (formerly The Great Valley) created a pop-punk version of the song which was posted about on the site. Listen to it in the replies.
Remember this? Well the song was recorded by Montana based artist David Boone, who now goes by the moniker; Dawns. He recently recorded his debut EP with Danton Supple (Coldplay, Starsailor, Morrisey) and plans to release it on June 20th. You can listen to the first track "Evidence and Answers" in the replies.
Earlier this week, we asked you if you knew who this band was. It was Icarus the Owl, and for thanks in helping us figure it out, we convinced the guys to let us give you a free download of their new song, "Mythomaniac" (right click > save as).
This article seems to think Lady GaGa is already cementing her name as one of pop music's greatest. What do you think? Are six #1 singles in 14 months impressive enough to win over more than just the mainstream? Is she really the next Madonna?
According to this article, the most increased buzz over a band at South by Southwest based on social media this year was Fang Island. The article also contains a list of the most talked about overall. Number one? NeverShoutNever.
A band with the email address firstname.lastname@example.org sent us a random unnamed song and we're trying to figure out who it is. So, in spite of whether or not we can do this, here it is for your download (right click > save link as). We leave it to you to figure it out and let us know if you know for sure who it is; we're stumped.
