Last week, I chatted on the phone with one of my favorite musicians, Stephen Christian (of Anchor and Braille, formerly of Anberlin). Our conversation touched on a variety of topics, from his new album Songs for The Late Night Drive Home, to the last days of Anberlin, and messages taken away from studying the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was a fascinating discussion to be a part of, so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed speaking with him." You can find the full interview here.
People have this false impression where we still live in the 80s and 90s where musicians were rich. I had a job working for Ultimate Ears as a social media coordinator the last two and a half...

Now that the dust has finally settled from all of the 2015 EOTY coverage, we can surge full speed into the next stage of the annual music cycle: speculating about our most anticipated albums of 2016. I love this time of year, because it gives us all a chance to survey the musical landscape of the coming months and highlight spots on the horizon to look forward to. Here, the AbsolutePunk.net staff have put together a list of some of the albums that we are most looking forward to this year, and from heavyweight favorites (Kanye West, Brand New) to lesser-known artists poised to have huge years (Aubrie Sellers, Holy Pinto), we believe our favorite records of 2016 are somewhere on ...

It's been a month since most music publications started dropping their EOTY lists, but here at AbsolutePunk, we're old fashioned about things like waiting until after the end of the year to publish our EOTY feature. It's January 6th now, though, so without further ado, we're happy to present our list of the Top 30 Albums of 2015! We are also rolling out individual lists from each of our staff members today, which you can find by clicking here. 2015 brought a lot of great music, and we're thrilled to share with you the albums we loved most and why we loved them. Thanks for another terrific year!

Andrew McMahon and New Politics ended their seven-week Wilderness Politics Tour at the Fillmore in Philadelphia on Saturday, November 28, 2015 to a sold-out crowd of 2,500. It's December 1st -- which means the damn year went by really fast again. It also means it's holiday theme time again for the website. If it doesn't automatically change for you the option can be found at the bottom of your options page. Note: This only changes the desktop version of the site, not the mobile one. Also, if you like talking about Christmas music from bands of this ilk -- check out this thread.

We didn’t want to convey that we're these distraught people so we just wanted to say that everything was copacetic because it really is.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. The website will be much slower in the news department than usual today as we gorge ourselves on food, drinks, and as much family and friends as we can handle. As Thomas wrote yesterday, the podcast is taking the week off as well. I just want to wish everyone a happy holiday.

The next few days always have a bunch of sales that show up for people to spend their money on, so I'm going to keep this thread open for the weekend and if there's a great deal you know about, please share it in the replies. Personally, I think this price on Amazon for one of my favorite pair of closed headphones, the Beyerdynamic DT-770s, is really good. Other sites worth checking...

Today I'd like to welcome Eric Wilson to staff! Eric will be a new news poster bringing you news and dealing with the insanity that is trying to get a video to actually post in the replies of a news post. A message from Eric is below, and please join me in welcoming him to our team.
Message from EricI’ve been a member of this site since February 2008, and over the years, it has become my main “go-to” website when it comes to music news and talking about music with other music fans. As time has gone on, what once started as punk/pop-punk roots, now I love music of all genres, and have found myself listening to artists or bands that the high school or college version of me would never...

You can finally read our recent interview with Julien Baker about her incredible debut album, Sprained Ankle, here.
It’s kind of strange to be so explicit about my spirituality, because you run into a lot of issues…being homosexual, that's not usually something you talk a lot about, but in my mind, those are both equally important and not separate issues. So being so open and honest about those things can be really hard sometimes. On one side, you’ve got these kids when I play basements that I’m afraid are going to be like, “Stop singing about God, that’s lame,” and then I’m also afraid the wonderful relationships I’ve found through church and through worship are going to be torn...

Today I'd like to welcome new staff member Angelica Nicolle Abalos to our team! Angelica will be aiding us in the photography department as we continue to try and add photos, show reviews, and other cool stuff like that to our site. Angelica has written up a little blurb below, so, please join me in welcoming her to our team.
Message From AngelicaAbsolute Punk, for as long as I can remember, has always been this constant all-knowing, all-powerful presence in my life. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. What I meant to say is, I don’t remember how or when I was introduced to this site, but I’m here now and I am excited to be a contributing photographer. Music is undeniably one...

Back in August, during the Absolute 100, we told you to look out for a Connecticut-based band named A Will Away. Now, as they're coming up on the recording process for their full-length debut, we sat down to chat with vocalist Matt Carlson and guitarist Collin Waldron to discuss their new label, fitting cohesive themes into an EP, and how to cram existential philosophy into pop songs. You can find the full interview here.
“Finding Comfort in the Pointlessness of Life” is the theme of the record. Bliss is that feeling of finding comfort in the pointlessness of life. It’s the idea that once you’re happy for you, the idea that once you acknowledge everything else is passing, everything...

Everybody’s non-controversial music-journalism BFF, Alternative Press, put out a rather lengthy piece titled “No More Silence” on Monday. It is a largely honest piece, outlining some of the horrific things that young women in the scene have gone through, and continue to go through every day. It is hugely important that an outlet with a large female readership like AltPress tackles this issue. For that, I commend them.

And yet, the way it was done has left a lot of us a little less than impressed. I want to explain why.

It’s worth noting that the article emphasized making positive change, and gave a voice to quite a few young women that, in theory, were previously unheard....
