Jack Antonoff has created a New Jersey music festival named Shadow of the City. He curated the lineup, which you can see in the replies, himself. Bleachers and Charli XCX will headline.
We're going to have a ton of fun stuff going on. The first year we're doing one stage, so there are no competing set times. All the artists will play back to back to back on the one stage. We're going to bring in all these local food trucks and carnival games. Weird NJ, which is one of the greatest magazines of all time, is going to have a presence. My sister [Rachel Antonoff] is a designer, and she's going to have a presence. We'll have records for sale. It's going to be like a little flea...
"I think it's important to go and to be working with different organizations there and to raise money. I'm gonna do press on the issue. That to me is how you really make a difference. I never understood the idea of canceling a show when you don't like the politics of a specific state. The politics don't speak for everyone in that particular state; I would argue they probably don't speak for most of the people in that state, but that's who their leader is and [Gov. Mike] Pence is obviously a piece of shit and I'm excited to go and say that on stage."
Originally I was supposed to talk to Jack Antonoff last week but things got nutty and I got a call from Mr Antonoff yesterday. He had a lot going on-as it always is with him. Between Bleachers and Fun, and ---a movie? Yep, that's right, Jack Antonoff is taking it to the screen. He's going to be in a film with Sally Field called Hello My Name Is Doris but he wasn't supposed to be/ it just kind of happened...he'll explain. We talked about his current tour with Bleachers and it seems like he may have an upcoming Philly date about to go public and whats this about Bleachers LP2??
Bleachers, Lena Dunham, Janeane Garofalo, Andrew McMahon, Ingrid Michaelson and others are coming together for a variety show at The Ally Coalitionís Talent Show on December 2nd at New World Stages. Full press release in the replies.
Jack Antonoff of Bleachers has done something pretty cool for fans of his new album, Strange Desire. He's gone on Yelp and detailed where he was and the meaning behind each song on his band's excellent new album. Check it out here.
Itís an annoying phrase. My whole life, Iíve been someone who likes to do a lot of different things, but Iíve specifically noticed with Bleachers, people donít like the idea of, like, two bands, two projects. Like, they both have to be labeled, and, well, which one is the main one? Which one is the side project? Itís like that phrase ďjack of all trades, master of none.Ē Which I think is a bullshit, annoying phrase. Itís just meant to scare us into doing one thing.
The first thing he does when he walks onto any plane is sterilize the seat with anti-bacterial wipes, he says. ďEveryone looks at me like Iím a fucking nut, but when was the last time you saw someone clean a plane? Itís just gross.Ē He always hugs hello and good-byeóthatís not just friendliness; he avoids shaking hands. He wonít sing into anyone elseís mike and doesnít play brass instruments, because ďtalk about a cesspool for disease, a trumpet?Ē Heís an avid Uber user and jokes he hasnít been on public transit since 2001, though thatís only partly because of germs; he also saw a dude pull his...

i let go of a lot right then and started to follow what i now call a strange desire. its the 2 words that perfectly title what this bleachers album is as a documentation of my life as i can remember it at this point. or better put, as i see it from this point. its been a bizarre and wonderful decade (particularly the past 2 years). a lot of great things have happened but its also been strange. this album speaks to all of that. i never kept a diary over the past year of being away and thinking about my life as it has unfolded - instead i wrote this album.
