Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now accumulated over $50 million in advanced ticket sales, still a month ahead of release. The previous record was for The Dark Knight Rises, which was around $25 million.

It's tough—jazz works really well, it's quiet, it doesn't get in the way of the scenes, but what can you do that's different if you want to push yourself to do something different?
The first HBO project will see The Daily Show alum work with cloud graphics company OTOY Inc., to develop new technology to allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO Now multiple times throughout the day. Additional projects will be announced as they are confirmed.
The documentary short Whispering Spirits is now streaming online and features interviews with Mike Kinsella of Owen and Greg Dunn of Moving Mountains. Whispering Spirits tells the story of Justin Veatch, a talented musician who died of a drug overdose at the age of seventeen. The film follows Jeffrey, Justin's father, as his family grapples with their devastating loss while reconnecting with him through the music he left behind.
Directed and co-conceived by Tina Landau with a book by Kyle Jarrow and music supervision by Tom Kitt, the “one of a kind musical event” will feature original songs by prominent musicians, including Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Jonathon Coulton, Dirty Projectors, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s and They Might Be Giants. David Bowie will contribute an additional song, as well.
Universal has made it official: Jurassic World has broken the North American, international and global records for an opening weekend. The final domestic number is $208.8M, which passes 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers which ended its first frame with $207.4M. The dino dandy ended Sunday with a global total of $524.1M after a record $315.3M start internationally. That total edges 2011’s Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which wrapped Frame 1 with $314M.
Rashida Jones (Parks & Recreation, The Office) is currently gearing up for the release of her new documentary, Hot Girls Wanted, which premieres on May 29th via Netflix. In the midst of it all, The AV Club just revealed "Wanted To Be Loved" from the soundtrack which sees Rashida herself team up to sing on the track alongside singer/songwriter Daniel Ahearn. The trailer for the Amy Winehouse documentary, AMY, can now be seen in the replies. It's brought to you from the team behind the award-winning documentary Senna and features interviews with Mos Def, her producer Salaam Remi and ex-husband Blake Fielder. In addition, Iger confirmed that Rian Johnson will write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII. The film, which continues the saga after the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is set for release on May 26, 2017 — forty years and a day after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. Johnson is widely considered one of cinema’s most gifted young filmmakers, having directed the modern sci-fi classic, Looper, as well as Brick and The Brothers Bloom. We posted a while back about the film Bridge and Tunnel. It's the movie with the soundtrack that includes John Nolan, Vinnie Caruana, Bayside, and a score by Ryan Hunter of Envy on the Coast. Anyway, the movie will be streaming online for one day only (tomorrow), for free. It'll go up at midnight if you'd like to see it.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rob Cavallo have written a musical based on the movie School Of Rock. It will debut fall next year on Broadway.
School of Rock — The Musical, based on the 2003 film of the same name starring Jack Black, will have its world premiere on Broadway. Performances are slated to begin Nov. 2, 2015, at the Winter Garden Theatre.
Sony Pictures has decided to cancel the Dec. 25 release of "The Interview" after major theaters said they wouldn't screen the movie. "We have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release of 'The Interview,'" the company said in a statement.
