At last night's Brand New show (their last of 2015), Jesse Lacey told fans that "this isn't going to last much longer." He mentioned hoping to have a new record out, but gave no details as to when. Video of the speech is in the replies.
Hit the replies for a performance of "Play Crack the Sky" by Brand New in Dallas. The performance is proceeded by a little speech from Jesse about growing up and making it through your younger years. The band is also asking fans to bring two cans of non-perishable food to their New Orleans show.
What’s funny is [that] I’m 37, and when you start playing music, night after night, from decades ago, you start to reflect on who you were when you were younger and the things you wrote music about. A lot of what we write music about is the uncertainty of being young, and trying to figure out who you are in the world, and what it’s going to be like when you grow older, and who it is you’re going...
Jesse Lacey of Brand New spoke with Rockzone, a Spanish magazine, and Reddit is currently working on translating it into English.
Yes, I have no problem talking about this with you. You’re the first person with whom I have an interview in a while. We have a new album to get. There is no secret. The thing is that it is not ready, so to speak. Hopefully it out this year, at least that is our aim. We do not know whether it will be an EP of seven songs or so, or the traditional LP of 14 songs. We have many songs that we’ve been working, but hey, I guess sometimes you have to face what you have steeping a little, as I said before. Is something that we have to adapt, one day seems that we...
“I don’t remember them really giving us any art direction at all throughout the whole process,” recalls Don. “I remember them liking what we submitted, and being a pleasure to work with during the entire process. It was a really fun project.” For such a seemingly easy process, the team never thought the artwork would have such an effect on fans. “It was pretty amazing to see the response to the artwork,” says Don. “If I could go back, there are a zillion little things I would do differently. I was much younger (and greener) at the time, so some of the light and shadow work is a bit clunky - but I...

O'Brother have been added to Brand New's show in North Carolina this weekend. The band have also asked all attending to bring two cans of non-perishible food to be entered into a raffle to win a signed set-ist.
Now, with context, “Mene” isn’t just a song anymore; it’s a highly-anticipated monster of a single that, to some fans, fell absolutely flat. Why? Because there’s that hanging suspense that’s set in unrealistic fantasies of what the band can perfectly achieve for every individual fan out there. The song, and now the band’s new album, is plagued with expectational bias.
Our friends over at Stereogum posted their "Top 10 Brand New Songs" and while most "let's make a list of something" articles being posted up on internet are worthless (ok, this one is pretty worthless too), at least it gives us a chance to argue about something.
The one benefit of a sea of smartphones at shows? When Jesse Lacey from Brand New forgets the lyrics to "Millstone" he can ask people in the audience to look them up. He's fucked if he wants "Degausser" though.
Reports are coming in from the Brand New show tonight in LA that if you buy any merch the band are giving out what appear to be lyric sheets to the new song "Sealed to Me." You can check a photo out in the replies.
Update: The song was played live tonight as an encore, video in the replies.
Hit the replies for a video of Brand New performing "Missing You" live at the Filmore last week. This is one of the better versions that contains the reworked bridge and outro (starting at about the 2:08 mark).
Reports are coming in that Brand New are sending out lyric books!? What!!? Some pictures have started showing up online (they're in the replies) showing everything that was sent out (including the dollar bill coming back). There's also an insert that claims the infamous demos will be released on cassette later this year. So, either this is a very well executed prank that took a lot of time to put together ... or maybe it's happening. Do we have any other confirmations beside this one user yet?
Update: The company that worked on the Shone viral campaign and works on Brand New's website, "The Up Studio," just posted this (mirror) on their Tumblr page.
The entire list containing all of this year's Record Store Day titles have been released. Interesting note within the description for the hotly-anticipated re-issue of Brand New's Deja Entendu: "Housed in a paper bag, Lyric Book Insert, Patch Insert, Sticker Sheet Insert, Download Card." Okay.
Well, the day is finally coming. Brand New will be repressing Deja Entendu on vinyl for Record Store Day with a mass pressing to follow.

The band Simple Mind is recording a "reimagined" version of Brand New's The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. Their cover of "Limousine" can be found in the replies, and some info on why they're doing this is up at this interview.
In December of 2013, I caught Brand New for one of their discography shows, as well as their Bell House show in Brooklyn. That show went down in their fanbases’ eyes as one of the best Brand New shows of all time. It was an incredible experience for me as well and I realized that this band was pretty much in my musical DNA. I wanted to delve into their songs and put myself into them, because I felt like they were all a part of me. I also just love the Brand...
