The "return of emo" craze is officially upon us and NPR has weighed in with an article.
Emo is still such a boy's club. In some ways it was intended (as much as an incidental development in music can have "intention") to open up hardcore so that it couldn't possibly remain this flexing center of machismo. Instead, by the '00s it was a ton of bands composed of dudes wishing incredible ill on women. It's maybe getting better. There seems to have been at least a lyrical shift. For instance, The World Is a Better Place orients itself around self-analysis. There are a bunch of pop-punk bands doing a reflexive Springsteen thing parallel to this, where all of the songs are about not knowing...
Buzzfeed has posted a new listicle about some of our BFFs, entitled "21 Newer Bands You Should Definitely Check Out If You're Desperately Missing '90s and '00s Emo." Featuring the likes of Dads, Glocca Morra and even broken up bands like Snowing, and not much description, the list is a fine way to pat yourself on the back for being slightly ahead of Buzzfeed.

Vampire Weekend's "Unstaged" live stream concert will be directed by actor/director Steve Buscemi (Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski, Boardwalk Empire).
Vampire Weekend will kick off the 2013 season of American Express UNSTAGED, in partnership with VEVO and YouTube, with a livestream of their Roseland Ballroom performance on April 28th at 9pm ET/6pm PT/2am GMT. The stream will be directed by award-winning actor and director Steve Buscemi and can be seen live from the closing night of Tribeca Film Festival at amexunstaged.com.
