Anthony Raneri of Bayside will be releasing a new solo record in June.
For instance, Iím gonna put a solo record out in June. I just finished recording it before this tour. Then Iím gonna tour on that for a little bit. Then when thatís over, this fall weíre going to start writing the next Bayside record. The problem with the Covers record is, do we put off writing the nect Bayside record in the fall to record a Covers record, or do we just get started on the next Bayside record.

Bayside have posted a new blog post in response to their video yesterday. This is really great to see and a positive step in the right direction. I hope more bands step up and do something similar. The full thing is in the replies.
I have seen some interesting and poignant comments about past Bayside lyrics being violent and misogynistic. I'm not going to deny it. I have always written songs from the top of my head. I write journals and then I turn them into lyrics. Literally. I wrote some songs when I was younger in which I was venting and at the time, it was a cathartic experience to get the crazy thoughts out. A lot of people do this in their heads and in private journals and my...

Bayside has premiered its new lyric video for "Dancing Like An Idiot," which can be viewed in the replies (via Billboard).
"These bands are just writing giant curses on t-shirts and selling it to a kid cause they know the kid is stupid enough to buy it," Raneri says. "You're telling them it's cool to buy a t-shirt to piss their parents off. There's nothing cool about that -- that's mall rebellion. That's not real rebellion. I grew up liking The Smiths, liking NirvanaÖ I fucking hated Guns N' Roses. It was bullshit, misogynistic, it was fake rebellion -- nothing is more corporate and commercialized."

So what Warped bands is he taking shots at? He's content to let the video do the...

Jack O'Shea of Bayside has undergone spinal surgery to fix a developing injury from performing. We send our thoughts and prayers to him for a healthy recovery.
So 11 years of headbanging and playing 11lbs plus Les Paul's had led me to spine surgery. A month ago I lost most of the use of my right arm and powered through a tour in Europe. I got home and decided to see a specialist to make sure my physical therapy was correct and was rushed into surgery. I had a 3 level fusion in my cervical spine and should hopefully get most if not all of my right arm back but it's right into intense physical therapy starting next week. Also my nurse is terrible at installing IV's.

This is just kind of bizarre - Bayside never trademarked its bird logo and some Mexico-based company took advantage of that and trademarked it for their company. So the band cannot use that logo anymore and have been developing a new logo in the meantime. You can hear front man Anthony Raneri explain the situation in the replies.

You can check out my interview with Anthony Raneri (Bayside) The band's fantastic new album, Cult, is available now (read my review) and will be heading out on its headlining tour next month.
And the same weekend we were doing those shows, Long Island Fest was happening in like a VFW Hall and I Am The Avalanche was playing. And I remember thinking like I would much rather be at Long Island Fest right now. I don't care, I don't want to be in front of these 10,000 people who don't get what I'm doing and as soon as we're done playing they're gonna go buy a confederate flag beer coozie. I would much rather play in front of a thousand people in a VFW Hall in Long Island right now. And that...

Read my review of Bayside's December 29th holiday show in Boston, MA with Man Overboard, Banquets and Modern Baseball.
Bayside have a huge year ahead of them, with the release of Cult on February 18th and a headlining tour kicking off in March, so it only made sense for them to end 2013 in a big way. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better way to end the year than watching Bayside rock a sold out crowd with a great line-up in tow.
