All the Good Band Names Are Taken.
The Wall Street Journal believes that all the good band names are taken. And it's myspace's fault.

All I thought of when hearing that is "The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die". |
what does if matter if certain name are taken if they're no name bands that haven't gotten anywhere.. It should all be free game until someone makes a name for themselves or gets endorsements, management or record deal.
|
None are as good as Mrs. Potato Dick though...

Na that's lazy. They're are good band names left like, "I Got Jumped On a Trampoline," and "Pretty Purple Pussy Poppers" you know stuff like that.
|
I have a great band name. But it's a secret.....in case I ever am in a band
|
Infinite number of good band names left. Bands just need to spend a little time thinking of one
|
Andy: The band has had a few different names over the years. When we started, we were Teddy Bear Suicide, but then we changed it to Mouse Rat. Then we were God Hates Figs, Department of Homeland Obscurity, Flames for Flames, Muscle Confusion, Nothing Rhymes With Orange, then Everything Rhymes With Orange, Punch Face Champions, Rad Wagon, Puppy Pendulum, Possum Pendulum, Penis Pendulum, Handrail Suicide, Angel Snack, Just the Tip, Threeskin... [long pause] Oh, Jet Black Pope. We went back to Mouse Rat, and now we are Scarecrow Boat. God, when I hear myself say Scarecrow Boat out loud I kinda hate it...
|
There's still a plethora of words you can scramble in with words like "Black" or "Heart" and form a sweet band name.
|
I don't get why bands would get upset about other bands having the same name. As long as its not done trying to capitlize on the other bands success just let it be. What are people going to get upset at next, the fact that someone wrote a song with the same name as you?
|
What a dumb article. Doesn't The Wall Street Journal have better things to talk about?

If a bunch of musicians are creative enough to write good music and to form a band, the name will kind of just come with them. I'm sure that's not always the case though.
|
I was unaware that there was a list of good band names that people had to choose from.

If I was ever in a band, I'd name it "Polka Dots & Stripes." I've had that in my mind forever now for some reason...

My ideas for band names:
The Royal Divorce Shyamalan Twist Jumping Frenchmen of Maine |

But I mean, I don't have any problems figuring out the difference between Ben Nichols' band and the hispanic pop singer. Like you said, a band's name is meant to identify them. So forcing a band to change that identity after six years seems a little rude. If you don't like the confusion that arose, why not change your name? It's not like you can argue that picking the name "Discovery" for your band is something another band couldnt have independently done on their own. |
We are "The Soap Opera Babies" TSOB for short. ya know HIPV, FOB, NFG

Thank you so much for saying that. That's all I could think of while reading the article. I fell in the pit... |

I can see that happening with bands. I do like the absolutepunk name though if it means anything lol. |

This article reminds me of how my mother is always complaining about band names. "What the hell does that name even mean? Did they just decide to put the most random shit together and thought it sounded good?"

I was just thinking about how much I like the band name "Fleet Foxes."

Ditto. I have a little garage band that has a fantastic name. Just a simple three word phrase. Googled it and it's not taken. But we've been keeping it a secret for the time being. (although it'll prob never leave garbage. Let's be honest, I'm too old and untalentes now! Ha) |
with the number of words in the English language (not to mention other languages), I'd say there are plenty of good potential band names.
also, what are people's opinions of taking band names from movies, books, and song titles? because, provided you're okay with that, the options really are endless. |
I have like 4 good band names that from my research have never been used before. So I don't think we have that big of a problem on our hands.
