"But I still know the way to make your make-up run"
Song: Paton Saints of Liars and Fakes
Band: Fall Out Boy
That line epitomizes how a vulnerable male feels after being shit on by their girlfriend/ex-girlfriend - vengeance!
I'm always buried in your pain.
I can feel what's it's like deep inside your soul.
I can feel your love running through my veins
with your heart as my home.
I am the currents that carry your words when you speak
I am the boat that delivers your love
with grace as my speed.
Everyone is a tiny vessel. Swimming for the shore
or floating in the sea
But whether it's the smoke that you breathe or the salt that you taste
We're all swimming the same waves.
- Something I'm working on myself. I'm just really proud of how this is coming together.
new found glory-who am I
I'm holding on
yes I am
careful what I wish for
I am knot in your stomach, the phlegm in your throat, the message saying your not home
"Just fall away. Just let it go. For you, I'd run away." - Ode We Will Bury Ourselves
If Work Permits is one of my favorite songs...ever. I kind of want to incorporate it into a future tattoo but I'm afraid if I get one lyric tattoo then I'll keep getting more.
I think it's because I have a weakness for songs with nautical imagery in them.
"highways turn to tidal waves"
im glad to see a handful of my favorites on this list. great minds think alike.
Dustin Kensrue (Thrice) - "Beggars"
"All you big shots who swagger and stride with conceit, did you devise how your frame would be formed? If you'd be raised in a palace or left out on the streets, or choose the place or the hour you'd be born? Tell me, what can you claim? Not a thing, not your name! Tell me if you can recall, just one thing not a gift in this life.
"Can you hear what's been said? Can you see now that everything's grace? After all, if there's one thing I know in this life, we are beggars all."
Matt Berninger (The National) - "Apartment Story"
"Tired and wired, we ruin too easy, sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave, but I'll be with you behind the couch when they come on a different day just like this one."
Aaron Weiss (mewithoutYou) - "January 1979"
"You watch me like a ten car highway wreck with detached, vulgar curiosity. This looking down at the tops of the hats of us passers-by from your 7th floor balcony. From such a height, you missed creatures too small for sight carry on covert conversations. And the misguided insects crown me their grasshopper king with a dance of celebration."
Bradley Hathaway - "Look Up"
"Look up, look up, look up into the sky, love. You see that moon shining so high up above us? It rolls around on account of a bunch of scientific stuff. I like to think it does just because He loves us."
Audrey Assad - "Known"
"Oh, and as the exhilaration of autumn's bite, oh, You have brought these tired bones to brilliant life. And as the swallow knows, she knows the sky, this is how it is with You and I; oh, this is how it is with You and I."
"It's not that often, but I think of her sometimes
Just something quaint, a couple ships in the night
And they keep moving at a glacial pace,
Turning circles in a memory maze
I made a new caste of the death mask that's gonna cover my face
I tried to change the combination to the safe
Hide it all behind a wall, let people wait
And never trust a heart that's so bent it can't break."
- Bright Eyes - "Classic Cars"
"We found you sleeping by your lover's stone
A ream of paper and a telephone;
A broken bow across a long lost violin.
Your lover's angel told the captain's man;
'It never ends the way we had it planned'.
Then kissed her palm and placed it on your dreaming head."
- Iron & Wine - "Muddy Hymnal"
"Don't wait too long to come home.
My, how the years and our youth passed on...
As we go down, down, down from our youth to the ground."
- The Gaslight Anthem - "Miles Davis & the Cool"
-I know this one is really recent, but the first time I heard this line, it was like a bat to the stomach...-
"You'll carve your names into the Paupack cliffs just to read them when you get old enough to know that happiness is just a moment."
- The Menzingers - "Gates"
"This river of road don't flow like it used to
But it's more of a home than anywhere I have ridden it to
And we used to dream together
But now I drink alone
From the bottle to the tumbler is the only journey left I know.
And in my memory's depths,
I've retraced my steps.
But I cannot find where I went wrong."
- Ben Gibbard & Jay Farrar - "One Fast Move, or I'm Gone"
Dark Center Of The Universe-Modest Mouse
Well, God sayin' somethin', but he didn't mean it
Everyone's life ends, but no one ever completes it
Dry or wet ice, they both melt and you're equally cheated
Well, it took a lot of work to be the ass that I am
And I'm really damn sure that anyone can, equally easily fuck you over
I'm sure you'll tell me you got nothin' to say
But our voices shook hands the other day
If you can't see the thin air then what the hells in your way?
We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves
Basically anything that's come out of Isaac Brock's mouth
May update my post later with more, but the latest Pianos Become the Teeth record has a lot of lyrics on there that mean a great deal to me. Cliche to say, but I can relate to a lot of it.
Lyrics from Such Confidence by Pianos:
''I wish I could find a god's teeth to grit them for him
I'd cut off his ears, put them to my heart, he'd hear me break,
I'd make it obvious to see,
show him a face like water frozen over,
a face that's absorbed everything,
show him it was the wrong day,
show him that I've seen my reach''
i could spend days on this, but just a couple more smaller lines that stuck with me...
Lydia: just remember always move fast
Steel Train: don't deny what makes you
The Lyndsay Diaries: we are still young, but we're trying so hard not to be
My ten, as close as I can figure:
Bruce Springsteen - "Thunder Road"
"The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves/Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays/Roy Orbison's singing for the lonely/Hey that's me and I want you only/Don't turn me home again I just can't face myself alone again/Don't you run back inside, darling, you know just what I'm here for/So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we ain't that young anymore/Show a little faith there's magic in the night/You ain't a beauty, but hey, you're alright/Oh, and that's alright with me"
Butch Walker - "Don't Move"
"Oh, why's it gotta be that everybody's gotta see the sadness?/Everybody's lonely, we don't have to be lonely baby, no baby/Oh, I can move you like an earthquake/Listen to me as my hands shake/'Cause I want you, I need you, I can't live without you, baby"
Jimmy Eat World - "23"
"You'll sit alone forever if you wait for the right time/What are you hoping for?/I'm here and now I'm ready/Holding on tight/Don't give away the end/The one thing that stays mine."
Jack's Mannequin - "Dark Blue:
"We were boxing, we were boxing the stars/We were boxing, you were swinging from Mars/And then the water reached the west coast/And took the power lines, the power lines/And it was me and you, and the whole town underwater/There was nothing we could do."
Counting Crows - "A Long December"
"The smell of hospitals in winter/And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls/And all at once, you look across a crowded room/To see the way that light attaches to a girl."
Iron & Wine - "The Trapeze Swinger"
"But please, remember me fondly/I heard from someone you're still pretty/And then, they went on to say/That the pearly gates had some eloquent graffiti/Like "We'll meet again" and "Fuck the man"/And "Tell my mother not to worry"/And angels with their great handshakes/Were always done in such a hurry"
Third Eye Blind - "Motorcycle Drive By"
"I go home to the coast/It starts to rain, I paddle out on the water/Alone/Taste the salt, taste the pain/I'm not thinking of you again/Summer dies, the swells rise/The sun goes down in my eyes/See this rolling way/Darkly coming to take me home/And I've never been so alone/And I've never been so alive"
Josh Ritter - "Thin Blue Flame"
"I woke beneath a clear blue sky/The sun a shout the breeze a sigh/My old hometown and the streets I knew/Were wrapped up in a royal blue/I heard my friends laughing out across the fields/The girls in the gloaming and the birds on the wheel/The raw smell of horses and the warm smell of hay Cicadas electric in the heat of the day/A run of Three Sisters and the flush of the land/ And the lake was a diamond in the valley's hand/The straight of the highway and the scattered out hearts/They were coming together they pulling apart/And angels everywhere were in my midst/In the ones that I loved in the ones that I kissed/I wondered what it was I'd been looking for up above/Heaven is so big there ain't no need to look up/So I stopped looking for royal cities in the air/Only a full house gonna have a prayer"
The Dangerous Summer- "Never Feel Alone"
"Cause I'm caught in every single word/And I know that you are something else/Yeah I've reached that point/So I'll try to do my very best to let you know that you're in my head/When I drive out to the coast/I'll bring a piece of you with me/So you know that I'll be coming home"
Bob Dylan - "Not Dark Yet"
"Well my sense of humanity has gone down the drain/Behind every beautiful thing, there's been some kind of pain/She wrote me a letter, and she wrote it so kind/She put down in writing what was on her mind/I just don't see why I should even care/It's not dark yet, but it's getting there"
EDIT: Of course I forgot one, so here's a bonus:
Averi - "Goodnight, Goodbye"
"With the lights still off, I study your frail body/And what all these living days has left you with/With your breath across the room/And my hand upon the door/I realize then that the hardest part will always be leaving."
Completely agree. This song made my eyes water when I first heard it because it completely describes my feelings about music. Shawn wrote some of my favorite lyrics as a member of The Matches.
Damn can Jesse write some intense lyrics. Also, I've seen this as so many people's facebook status but it has yet to annoy me.
