Deftones Ready New Album
 

Deftones are currently mixing their next album, which they hope to release in early October.

"It's not a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic," Moreno tells Billboard.com. "Some of my favorite things about Deftones are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I understand that's a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities -- the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression."

Slowly removing my foot from my mouth. I never thought they'd again release a new record less than three years before the previous one.

What are some good songs to get a taste for this band?

Minerva, Cherry Waves, Lifter, Digital Bath, although imo, wherever you start you can't go wrong, really. Except for maybe Back To School, I thin that song is the reason they got lumped into the "nu-metal" category when they are pretty far from it.

Be quite and drive. Root. Needles and Pins. Passenger. Change. Cherry Waves. it could really go on forever.
