Codejak - 09.11.12
The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:
1. How did you get your band name?
We wanted a one worded band name. Something with an impact. A name that was a play on words so it was easy for people to find us on search engines and came up with CodeJak!
2. How did this band get started?
CodeJak formed around 4 years ago, fed up of the same old sounds coming from our area and in the charts. Barrow is a run down old ship building town. Dan and Dave brothers, decided to create something new and different to feed their love of alternative/grunge/rock music. After finding a bass player, Dan decided to start writing material for their new sound and also pick up a guitar to enhance the sound and his younger brother on the sticks. After a few lead guitarists we found Dan Clark, whose playing style and taste fit CodeJak down to the ground.
[b]3. What bands are you influenced by?[/url]
Foo Fighters, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, QOTSA, Dream Theatre, Smashing Pumpkins, Biffy Clyro, Rush, Mr. Big, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Dream Theatre for their consummate professionalism, G n R for the parties, Foo Fighters because they are all cool dudes!
5. Best food to eat on tour?
We appreciate anything that’s put on a plate in front of us after travelling for 16+ hours! Carbs and white meats are great to keep you alert and energised whilst on tour. Mr Jericho made sure of this when we toured Europe with Fozzy!
6. Why should people listen to your band?
To hear raw, guttural music made from sheer passion, impulse and feel.
7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
Usain Bolt or Muhammad Ali. Because they beat all the odds to become the best at what they do!
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Every single fan, friend and family that made it happen!
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Too much music is made, purely to make talentless businessmen/women money, and too many people are willing to buy “the norm” instead of tasting something different and give hard working musicians/bands more of a chance.
10. Memorable tour experience?
Backstage at the Cardiff show supporting fozzy...We found ourselves drinking and chatting with the Bullet For My Valentine guys, Fozzy and the mighty Steve-O from Jackass! Surreal!
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
A place where you can read exclusive news, check out information on new bands and established bands, see when new releases are due out and generally have a great read! AP.NET has loads of info, pics, blogs, music and interviews! This will get your music taste buds screaming for more!
12. What is your favorite song to play?
“The Ballad Of Jenny G” is pretty cool to perform. It has everything! Shredding riffs, quick tempo, melody, powerful vocals and thunderous drums!
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
What's a "vacation"? People say to us after touring “Bet it was great to visit all those amazing cities and countries”... but let’s be honest we only really see the decor inside the venues and the fans going mad!
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
The Police, R.E.M., Crowded House, Dire Straits. All on cassette tapes!
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
Instantaneous sobriety would be pretty useful, haha.
16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
We all get together, get on the same page. Even the crew, management and sound guy get together.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
We were filmed in London for a pilot show to be aired on TV. We ended up eating raw eggs with the shell and even eating dog food on crackers! We dragged our roadie and manager along with us and even they joined in and had over 50 clothes pegs ripping into their face! We even drew blood from Dan’s forehead after slapping elastic bands off his head which splattered blood all over the place!
18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?
In our opinion “main stream” radio is pretty stale and only really caters for mainstream established or record company backed "artists" who’s music/style sound very similar. There are plenty of great stations out there that cater for all tastes but sometimes the problem is finding them.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
We all love to spend time with family and friends, listen to awesome music, watch great bands, extreme sports and we love to watch MMA! Sometimes we do rehearse though, haha!
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
Guitarist Dan can fix anything! Fisher can actually sleep for 48+ hours and not be woken up! No one knows what brothers Dan and Dave’s hidden talent are as they are very well hidden!
