Mumford and Sons Have Biggest Sales of The Year
Mumford and Sons officially had the best debut week album sales of 2012 with over 600,000 copies sold. Babel had the second biggest debut week in digital sales ever with 420,000 downloads, just falling behind Lady Gaga's Born This Way last year. The only other indie distributed album to do better was The Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden back in 2007. Another interesting fact is 1 out of every 10 Spotify users in the US streamed at least one track from Babel.

Crazy awesome.
It's so fucking exciting to see a BAND doing this well. Not to mention: the Top 3 this week were all bands.
Good. Well deserved.
This is one of only albums I've actually went out and bought this year and it's totally worth it.
Weird. You'd think I would have heard one of their songs by now
Coming in second only to Born This Way in digital sales is HUGE considering that Born This Way had the $1 Amazon promotion. It's very possible it would have been the best ever if not for that.
I streamed 3 and then stopped when i realized that all 3 sound exactly the same
Crazy.
That's honestly pretty nuts, especially the 1 in 10 streaming thing.
Guess I need to listen to this record then...Wow
Ridiculous. Awesome.
i streamed a track from babel, i admit it, im sorry everyone
well deserved!!!
I honestly still don't understand. But hey, better than it going to that horrendous Born This Way
When does Taylor come out? That will probably beat it, but that's still amazing for them.
Have a feeling this will be get beaten by Good Kid M.A.A.D City.
Wow, i did not expect such high numbers. Still think the record sucked. Their first one was better.

Taylor Swift's album will outsell both of these but i think Kendrick's sales will suprise alot of people. we'll see on the 29th though. |

lol - Kendrick won't touch Mumford and Sons. That dude'll be lucky to push 250k his first week.
If that... |
I can't listen to a Mumford song without busting out laughing thanks to Ralph Garman. With that shinfo aside, it's great to see a fucking band dominating the charts agains. Kinda weird that it's a folk band but I'll take what I can get.

420

I wish I could say Babel was a step up from Sigh No More, but I can't - But due to their popularity this was kind of expected.
Is this whole album played with the same banjo chord?
420k of 600k were digital downloads? Wow.
Not as crazy of a debut as I heard it would be, but still huge. Good for them, even though I don't care for them in the slightest.
Also, lol at people being glad a "band" topped the charts. Aren't we over that nonsense yet? |

The first 4 songs sound basically the same to me. |

Good for them.

My only answer is that Mumford fans don't steal music
Record took a few spins, to grow on me but I love it. Still really surprised how well it did, good for them.

it took that long? |
I was in the 90%
Let's all thank James Cameron for raising the bar.
i don't get what all the fuss is about. yes it's good for rock but not really my cup of tea.
I've never really seen the mass appeal of these guys. Songs on the radio are not unlistenable, but I would never go out of my way to listen to them. Maybe I'm just not hipster enough ... fuck it I'm going to listen to some Latterman
Btw is it just me of do these guys repeat the word "Heart" in every song they write |
They're a band that can appeal to the average music listener. At the end of the day, the release is good. If you're saying "every song sounds the same," it's because you're not listening hard enough to what is being played. You're sitting there telling yourself how you hear are the quarter bass drum notes, with a guitar, banjo, piano, and bass.
Good for them. I was a fan of a few songs on the first album, but was a little confused for all the love of "I will wait" when the verse has the same guitar backing as "Little Lion Man"

I will wait I will wait I will wait I will wait I will wait I will wait for you There, now you don't have to. |

By and large, fans of "pop" music are less apt to download music and buy it instead compared to "indie-minded" listeners/fans. Which, if you think about it, is completely backwards and ironic. |

LOL I like where your head's at because I love Kendrick, but you're just wrong. |

"Nonsense" |
I'm totally okay with this. At least they actually play their instruments and write their own songs, plus the fact that Babel is actually quite good. Go Mumford.
