The Maine (and Adam) Just Want To Have Fun
You can stream The Maine's Punk Goes Pop 5 cover of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (featuring Adam Lazarra of Taking Back Sunday) over at MTV.

most disappointing PGP album. too many new\unknown bands
|
I'll probably be alone here.... but this cover is surprisingly great
|
Not bad but kind of boring. I could see Adam having fun with the verses if they were more upbeat.

This must be the worst compilation. This track and Mayday's are the only "ok" songs, and don't start me on that awful Some Nights Cover...

I'm more of a fan of cover songs that hold some sort of tribute to the original. Other than lyrics, this is hardly considered a cover IMO. They even fucked with the structure. And not in a subtle way — like its nothing close to the original. I think Relient K did a way better job. Kinda bummed.

One of the few songs I enjoyed on the comp - and where's Adam on it?

I won't be buying this whole album but will get this song. I love The Maine's new sound way more than their old sound and they totally re-imagine this sound which is what I love. I actually like cover songs that are unique and re-imagine the original more than ones that just cover it to the point it basically sounds like the original with different vocals. Adam's addition also really was worth it for this song. I personally like this more than the Relient K cover despite liking Relient K. Its still distinguish the same song here but it was gutted and redone in an unique manner that really changed the tone. Cover is kinda great.

This is awesome. You never see stuff like this on a Punk Goes Pop album anymore. For some reason bands think going "pop" means you have to cover a song that came out in the last year or two.

Second verse. |
The Fastest Kid Alive did it better.

I can't say I enjoy this cover. I'm not really a fan of The Maine, and if I heard this song somewhere I wouldn't even be able to tell you that it was a cover. Just sounds like another song of The Maine's to me.
